As the title says. I can't find an up to date description of what it does. Thanks for any responses.

Although the information in the mech lab shows the same direct and indirect spread for artemis and standard, very small sample testing with LOS shows that there is a spread reduction. For example, take out a mech via center torso damage in 4 salvos with artemis vs. 5 without.

I believe that all the lock on time reduction benefits from artemis were removed.

Here is some good information, but doesn't really touch on artemis. Watch the ECM distances, that may have been tweaked since.

Watch out for references before March 2019. A lot changed at this time.

Artemis does this:

SRMs: It reduces the SRM spread by 30%

LRMs: It reduces LRM spread by 30% and increases base LRM velocity to 190 m/s (non-artemis LRM velocity is 160 m/s).
While the velocity boost is always in effect, the spread reduction boost only comes into effect when at the moment you fire the LRM you have line of sight to the target (the spread boost stacks with the base LOS tight spread)

Artemis does nothing for Streak-SRMs, MRMs, Thunderbolts, or ATMs.

Also note that the spread boost of Artemis can get countered and jammed by an enemy ECM.

If you are going to use LRMs, I would recommend taking Tag, (Beagle/Clan) Active Probe, Advanced Sensor Package, 5/5 Sensory Range Skills, 5/5 Target Decay Skills and 5/5 Velocity at a minimum. Then if you have tonnage left, consider Artemis. You need to get a lock before you need to worry about getting the missiles to the target faster or the spread if they get there.

If you are playing in a group, try asking them to take Target Decay skills and bring UAVs/NARC/TAG.

Just don't waste the tonnage on it.

yeah now days Artemis is not really worth the tonnage and space. i would rather use that for active probe or even some backup weapons (remember that even just two MLs is equal in damage to an AC/10). that cost gets worse the more launchers you have as well.

there was a time when Artemis was a must have for any LRM boat and most SRM bombers. that was back before they made a HUGE alteration to lock-on weapons. they added the alternate firing arcs for Direct and indirect fire (something i like as it lets you fire in a few places you otherwise wouldn't as long as you los). during this update they pretty much nerfed all the various systems that help locking weapons. after the cauldron took over it has mostly just been more nerfs (some say the ECM nerf is a buff for lock-ons but it really isn't). (a few mechs got some quirks that helped but those are few and far between with most of them being ones that made specific weapon quirks general (say energy cooldown to a flat all weapon cooldown))

Artemis used to improve clustering for indirect fire, now it only works for direct fire. SRMs benefit from it more than LRMs do
