As the title says: Take down UAVs! I just played a match where we got stomped. I called out a UAV near the center of the map. No one shoots it down. I call it out again. No one shoots it down. I call it out a third time and one of my team mates gets on comms and says "It doesn't matter. They have more guns than us, so shooting it down doesn't matter." It matter because if you don't, they know where you are and which way you're facing! Shoot them down as soon as you can! I couldn't shoot it down because of SRMs that are torso mounted and the mech can't tilt back that for. Everyone else was just ignoring it.

Unfortunately, we have alot of defeatists in the game. If the game is going for the team, groups push and get with the momentuum, but if there's a stall or there are significant casualties - there's an element that writes off the match completely. They start powering down or pull back from the fight and look for places they can tactically snipe and get a kill or two more. If you're the last man standing after a team collapse, that makes sense but when it's happening when it's 6 kills vs 8... it's helping decide it for the enemy.
As for the UAV kills, I don't know why more people don't try to shoot them down at all points in a match. They are good cbills and trigger other rewards as well - I have watched time after time as a sniper is sniping PAST enemy UAVs that they clearly see, UAVs that are revealing their location on a cliff and allowing missiles to arc in on their position. That single minded focus only to zoom and shoot their snipe target dooms them and their team - proving they are no kind of actual sniper. A real sniper would embrace the challenge of shooting not just enemy cockpits, but also taking down the number one way his enemies notice him and his allies and avoid ambushes.

You know what you can do? You can drop strikes on it. Not worthwhile if it's just dropped by a scout, of course, but if it's over their main team, your team can punish them for putting it there - and then shoot it down. =D

This was near the start of the match. Neither team had lost a mech yet. I think a few shots had been launched back and forth. The enemy was just starting to get tagged 'R' when I called out the UAV. By the third time calling it out, the opposing team had pushed us off the top and taken down 1 of my team when the defeatist started saying it was useless.

Well, obviously you have my sympathy and empathy. Been there and the reminders are always good. In the initial moments of a match, if you use voice or want to type something to the effect of, hey team remember to shoot down enemy UAVs - it can get you points and help us win when the enemy DOESNT KNOW WHERE WE ARE GOING every second, due us shooting them down.
Another part and this is still for quick play/public queue - drop in a group of other players... they may be more responsive and in vicinity to you. As you find yourself in a similar bind, pinned down by arcing LRM fire and a UAV overhead that you can't tag with your srms, etc., you can say hey bro/sis, I'm pinned down, can one of you take down the UAV over our location in D4? Even if your overall whole team derps and ignores that request in game chat/voice comms, maybe the people in your direct group will have enough camraderie and fraternity to do you that solid.

On an interesting note you can dumbfire LRMs at an UAV and you will take it down!

I killed a UAV once by dropping a strike on a group of enemies just as one of them was launching said UAV. Lucky shot for sure.
Good hunting,

Have you never been Narced in the open? A UAV hovering uncontested overhead is one of the failure states for countering indirect missiles; LRMs are deprecated at higher levels because of their low skill ceiling, but there are situations where LRMs are oppressive even in their current state. Because not all areas of all maps have LRM cover, you can get rained to death by one or two missile boats while being unable to maneuver - and if you'd read the thread, you'd know that people are more concerned with the enemy team knowing their every move than with LRM fire. You are literally the second person to even mention the word.
