When I try to start the game, I get a message saying the portal has crashed, with this

  • Running Avast?
  • Failed to launch C:\Program Files (x86)\Piranha Games\MechWarrior Online\Bin64\MWOClient.exe - The system cannot find the file specified
  • https://mwomercs.com...2-portal-crash/ One of many
  • Exclude Avast from scanning MWO folder.
  • Rerun the MWO Repair Tool if using the stand alone
  • If using Steam, check Avast quarantine folder and have it removed from the quarantine, as I am not aware if running Integrity Check will replace the missing file.
  • Other option is to download the game again then reinstall it to replace the missing file.
  • When the game is patched, there is an updated exe and the antivirus program may see it as a threat for a few days after the patch.
  • Almost all issues like this has been associated with Avast security program.
Also review this one, may keep you from having to patch the game. The post is from 2016, unsure if the steps are the same for the current Avast or not.

Until then, if you are running Avast and are experiencing issues with updating or running the Tournament Client you will need to manually clear the MWO Tournament Client from the Avast quarantine list.

Removing the Tournament Client from your Avast quarantine:
1) Right-click the Avast icon in your Window taskbar, next to the Windows clock
2) Click "Virus Chest"
3) Find MWOClient.exe in the list
4) Right-click it and select "Restore and add to exceptions"
