Total Warfare. (With customized rules sets.)

I did my time with Battledroids, Boxed sets, Battletech Compendium, Master Rules, etc. when they were released.

Currently using TW, although my first interaction with the universe was back in the eighties (really forgot year, sorry, but I imagine it being after 1987) with the box set named "Battletech: A game of armored combat" with the cardboard tokens. My friend then bought the Citytech box set after I hooked him in and we played a lot with a small but devoted circle of friends.

Anybody knows where I can find a box set of Solaris? That was my favorite box set of the bunch, somehow, with the arena maps. It had some amazing (to me) mech designs I liked a lot when I was younger. If anybody could point me to any TRO that includes some or all of these mechs, please let me know.

I see no reason why not use TW, because the rules are not that different. It's even more complex nowadays, but one could restrict ''Mech/weapon choices if that becomes an issue (I have frankly never played with any technology after the clan invasion, although would like to do so in the future-the Battletech community seems to be small, though.)

I have all 3 versions, but I'm really old school and use 1st edition mechwarrior and make the players comand a lance each so they can have a complete company and incorporate the unit structure rules as well.

with 1 exception, we add the level 3 rules from the Technical Handbook into the play

I tend to play with the most current version. However I play in the 3025-3039 time-frame so the rules on what components are available limits things.

The first rule book I owned was the Battletech Master Rules.

Although, I did have access to earlier rule books owned by guys who played longer.

Now I have Total Warfare though.

The Solaris 7 mechs are detailed in TRO 3055 upgrade and RS 3055 upgrade unabridged; as for the boxed set, eBay is probably your best bet unless you can get to a big con like GenCon where there are vendors that carry/specialize in that sort of out of print materials.

Started playing on the venerable and beloved Third Edition (with all the Unseen!!!), and when I could finally afford my own, I got what I thought was 5th edition, though I can't seem to find it mentioned online anywhere. It had a night scene of an Atlas (seen from below), pwning it up. Not the 4th edition's cover with the Atlas with a destroyed right arm, but a different image. Weird....why can't I find it?

I play with the newest rules.

I find they're very well balanced, lend the best to combined arms fighting, and moreover, I play with people in public areas, not in the seclusion of my house. I'm kind of obliged to play with the newest rules set for compatibility purposes.

Yes, the index is garbage, and the rules can be hard to find, but the rules themselves are fantastic.

I have a copy of the 1985 Battletech white book. Somewhere in the storage room there are heavily yellowed cardboard cut outs of mechs and hex maps.

That was the edition I played (got in the 7th grade). Battlemaster, Wasp, Shadowcat, etc.

These days I play megamek when I need my hex-based-giant-robot-turn-based fix.

I had BattleTech 3rd Edition, the Solaris 7 Boxed Set, BattleForce 2, CityTech 2nd edition and BattleSpace.

However all of those besides various counters, record sheets and books have been lost to time... :(
