Anyone else had a bug where their mech just doesn't cool down?

Had this a few times recently, like my mech had basically zero heat sinks.
Different mechs and different maps both times.

Seems once it happens you are basically screwed for that map. Even running
a relatively cool mech I was still having major issues.

Any workarounds? I tried pretty much everything bar leaving the match and
re-entering.

Hey Dreznul,

The heat bug has been around forever and will likely never be resolved due to MWO's ancient code. For most players it's a rare thing that comes and goes.

Good hunting,

Thanks, must be coincidence that I just happened to get it 3 times in the last few weeks :)

Hadn't seen it before that I noticed, entirely possible I just exploded and didn't notice before lol

some say it will happen due to server desync with client after a lag spike.
Usually more than one player in the current match will suffer from ths bug if PGI's pet hampster decide to **** inside the server.

I find the idea it is connected to lag very unlikely as MWO runs the majority of the simulation server side so even if the client desyncs, the server should still continue calculating heat like normal. MWO uses a dumb client so basically no direct gameplay things like this should be caused by the client.

Its probably something daft like the DB is having issues when grabbing your mech's build at the start of the map and gets the number of HS wrong or doesn't get it at all so falls back to a default value, but then very hard to debug it without actually looking at the server logs.

I only encountered the heat bug once in the 10+ years I've been playing.

A thought though: Is it really a bug, or is it actually a 3+x engine through-armor critical hit? That would usually kill a 'mech outright in conventionally-known game mechanics (single side torso loss on IS 'mechs, dual side torso loss on Clan 'mechs). But if there were actually working engine crits, that could explain the "bug".

Maybe it's been a feature this entire time and no one's ever actually understood it Posted Image

I don’t think I ever encountered this bug before in all my time playing, but in the past month it’s happened about 4 or 5 times
