After using SB Gauss for the first time...

Just 2 weeks and you cant use properly usual Gauss anymore. So much difference.
I had to try SB Gauss earlier.

I don't like it, the spread ruins the appeal of gauss for me.

Well, the appeal of the SBG is the lack of ghost heat when paired with PPCs.
That perk aside, it's just an inferior gauss.

Can you imagine the absolute salt and chaos that TAC rolls would be with cluster weapons?

1/12 chance of your armor just being straight ignored and your internals getting directly shredded, ammo cooking off because of a lucky pellet.

Saving grace being we can't engine crit/cockpit crit each other into the grave in mechwarrior.

It has pretty cool sound effects.

Do generic spread quirks affect it meaningfully?

Just depends on what you're using Gauss for. Mid range? The better DPS and pretty much lack of charge is worth it. Long - Extreme range? Stick with Gauss.

Yes, you cant kill UAV in 1000m range, but charge time is astonishing. I used 5 mid lasers + 2 SB gauss on non-meta Nightstar NSR-9FC. LBX10 wasnt good, so I went with err lasers and gauss. Then I tried SB gauss just for fun and surprised.

I haven't used SB Gauss much. If the goal is taking a medium-range gun with no PPC ghost heat I'd rather take a LB-10. At least that doesn't have the charging mechanic and it costs only 5 points of damage, so I think it's a good tradeoff.

LBX10 is one of the worst options available for avoiding PPC ghost heat. SBG, LG, AC10s, AC5s, and UAC5s are all better options. I'm about 90% sure the spread on LBX10 is way worse than the SBG at PPC optimal.

IS faction-wise, none ERPPCs have been commonly paired with regular ACs (or LACs and UACs) for pinpoint alpha enhancement and rough velocity match.

Due to the spread and lack of ghost heat, SB gauss is commonly paired with HPPC and used in mid-range builds where the velo desync between gauss and slower PPCs is less of an issue.
Common builds are the HGN-HM with SB Gauss and 2 HPPC or COR-7A with 2 SBGauss and 2 HPPC.

I kinda don't like it, unless it gets a damage buff.

It's like a downgrade as LBX is somewhat a downgrade. Yeah it's good for critting, but the spread damage defeats the point of being a gauss that you strip an armor square on the component, so you can quickly dispose of it.

RGH-2A with 50% Gauss CD is really overlooked because of its low mounting points however if you can get over that, running dual SB on it is seriously good fun.
