I gave these mechs a chance. Quickly discovered they run to hot. Packed them up until this is remedied.

The upcoming game patch will boost the heat dissipation of some Gauntlet variants.

i have eyeballed them (hell any new IS mech at least gets me to look at it). from what i have seen i will likely never get one. i honestly find MASC a bit of a waste for my play style. i could use that tonnage and space for heat sinks and other things. then again with items you have to press an extra button to activate i often forget it even exists in the heat of battle. if i want another Bushwacker i will just get another bushwacker for C-bills (not a big fan of the hero). this and IS Nova (forget the name of it) just feel like the bare minimum of effort from PGI. if they wanted to give us IS Omnies there are other options that are full on new mechs. then again with the almost non-existent personnel at PGI what do we really expect.

The Gauntlet (and the Black Hawk-KU before it) is a way of giving the MWO playerbase a new canon IS OmniMech, while keeping the production costs down thanks the reuse of the existing Bushwacker model.

I'll admit I didn't pay as much attention to the Gauntlet as I should have. I was today years old when I learned I could make what is effectively a Bushwacker with M.A.S.C., a Supercharger, ECM, jump jets, and either a giant wad of pulse lasers or two snubs and eight small lasers for highly effective knife-fighting. This...is appealing enough I might have to cave and buy the pack.

Will it run crazy toasty? Absolutely. Did it need the Light Ferro clogging up crit space that could've gone into heat sinks? Nawh. But is it basically an I.S. Black Lanner that operates exactly the way I want my pursuit/hunter-killer 'Mechs to operate? Darn tootin'.

Why do people even put it next to the Black Lanner? It's really more like Hellfire/Linebacker, similiar weapon tonnage (with near-max armor) too thanks to the locked engine.
Also the buffs didn't touch its STs, only CT armor.

I'm quite excited about the Gauntlet improved quirks, it amounts to something like 2-3 built-in DHS, but with no weight/slot penalty! :)

Post Patch, the base model Gauntlet is still bleh.

Fundamental issue remains. The one gun you care about is in an arm that everyone knows to shoot at.

You still don't have enough room to get a missile weapon that actually works WITH it instead of being awkward, or to load up on DHS. I hope the Lyran engineer responsible for this is thrown out an airlock.
15 damage isn't nothing every few seconds, but it's not an immediate threat you can trade with. 10 damage a pop if you want range instead.

Armor and cooldown help, but it's still supremely underwhelming.

1O can snipe with this all day long.
1OA can go with 2ERPPC+2LRM5 or 2SNPPC+SRM12/MRM20.
1OB is eh, go 10ERML+1LL or MPL build I guess, it's a Nova-Prime without the JJs and more speed I guess.
1OC is still as awkward as ever, go AC5+PPC I guess.

It does its thing, but it's still awkward because limitations of light engine on a medium instead of XL and the meh-ish quirks, particularly in velocity department you ask me.
