Recently -- i.e this last week -- I have been getting regular 'disconnected from game server' errors that return me to the MechLab. The main session remains active, I'm not logged off, other internet use seems normal. Restarting the client, rebooting routers, etc, have not stopped the problem.
Has anyone else been encountering this and/or have any ideas on causes/fixes?

This happen to me from time to time, but nothing as regular and often as I understand you're experiencing... I also didn't encountered anything of the sort last week, nor have I heard my mates complain about it.
Anyway, did you try to run the repair tool (if you're using the stand alone launcher) or verifying files integrity (if you're using steam)?

I have had no problems for the last few days.
I played the Quick Play and the Faction Play - both cases without connection problems.

Validation came up clean. Gonna try routing through my phone as a hotspot next, see if the problem is the ISP. Can't think why it would be though because it's been working fine prior. =/

Is your isp doing any maintenance? My connection kept dropping randomly last week and it ended up they were doing an infrastructure update which cause temp blackouts momentarily across the network during the process as they switched to new hardware. Nothing to interrupt normal browsing or buffered videos but games would be disconnected. I only found this out by calling and asking since there was no notification like usual probably due to only gamers being effected.

Has anyone found a solution to this issue?
It occurs very frequently, even though the game used to run just fine.
I haven't installed any mods or made any changes to the launcher.
The game is unplayable right now — looks like I'll have to skip the event, unfortunately.

Welcome to the forums!
You can try to run the MWO Repair Tool. Probably it will not help, but it should not hurt.
