All this talk risks scaring those who might buy MWO mech packs!
Please stop.
MWO is fun! The Shadow Hawk IIC is beautiful! Cannot wait to pull the trigger to buy it once it comes out in Sept!

And I'll be buying MW5:Mercs and all of its DLC all in one go on GOG.com, now that it has official Clan mech assets in it!

But I can tell you that the Enad Global 7's leadership was disappointed with the performance of MechWarrior 5: Clans:

EG7 can simply order PGI to pull the plug on MechWarrior Online at any time, while still having them to work on one or two expansion packs for MechWarrior 5: Clans.

It is quite possible for EG7 to let PGI release last one or two expansion packs for MechWarrior 5: Clans and then shut down PGI for good. And since it seems that all-new 'Mechs depend on the MechWarrior 5: Clans development ... Without that continuing development, the probability of getting all-new 'Mechs in MWO is not exactly high.

im just calling it as i see it. i bought clans last christmas and still havent gotten around to playing it, let alone collecting dlc. but was it a success? probibly not. doing ghost bear without grizzly is kind of a mortal sin (if they didnt include it, i honestly haven't looked). i interpreted the question as whether or not clans had any new mechs that could be backported. and as far as i know that's a negatory. i suspect thats the reason it didnt do so well is it was all reused assets we've seen before.
best way to keep mwo alive is to buy mechs and keep playing.

content shows signs of life. seeing people with that content on patch day will be a good indication. at least it will pay the bills another month or two.

You mean MW-O? Not exactly.
All-new 'Mechs depend on the MW5: Clans development heavily. And reskinned existing 'Mechs? I see them less and less often in the game, even right after their release.

MWO is 1) an ability to say "portfolio play" with pvp and live service, 2) MW player/enthusiast retention. The last time Russ talked about it, MWO was in the black/profitable on its own. I don't know if this has changed but probably still the same, which is a big deal in deciding to keep it around. It sustains itself.
The purpose of MW5 is to justify investment and design of "MW Next" not to keep MWO going.

id like to think that. i figure mw5 dlcs are mostly to port content over to ue as well as fund new mechs that can be backported. once you have enough assets ported its not too much to bundle them into a (hopefully stand alone) arena shooter. problem is clans really didnt do either of these things. if a replacement product comes into existance, i figure dlc will replace the mech pack. otherwise i doubt all the mechs will be ported. but i think enough have been ported to make a new game make sense. mwo still being in the green is probibly the reason it hasn't happened yet.

Say the entry tier would include, I dunno, ten mechs each IS and Clan, and a dozen maps. Mechpacks could work just like they do now and maybe add some kind of subscription fee for "advanced" maps and mech load outs. Not pay-to-win, but say later timeline weapons and systems become available under subscription with the caveat that they can't be used in the entry tier.
I'm just spitballing here.
