Ok, 8v8 + 4 mech drop deck + Conquest game mode is actually super fun. No rotato potato, teams try to communicate, AND it's less stompy. I had a couple of fairly one sided games, but even in those you get to play with at least one your 4 toys.

Just imagine if they made Faction play this exactly, in either 8v8 or 12v12 quick play maps with 4 mech drops decks, people would play it again. But the powers that be at PGI can't seem to understand that.

Honestly, i wouldn't touch a cut down faction play.
I'd do bigger though. bring it on!

Couldn't care less about actual faction play, too much waiting, too much comp team stomping, asymmetrical game modes, long tom bs, BUT drop decks coupled with conquest on a quick play maps does the job of increasing average pug IQ by a lot and it feels like you get more game per time you have to wait in queue compared to quickplay.
I wouldn't mind if 8v8 conquest with drop decks was a go-to alternative to quickplay instead of dead faction play or comp queue, similar to how group queue was back when it was separated. Maybe 12v12 with 3 mech 175 ton drop deck so if it's a horrible mismatch it doesn't last as long, but then again, stomps happen in quickplay too, more often than normal games, at least for me.
Part of the balancing can be done outside of matchmaker by tying group size to tier, like no more than 3 tier 1s in one group. One tier 1 counts as two tier 2s so 2 tier 1s + 2 tier 2s is possible for example. And tonnage balancing is done automatically by drop decks, not that weight actually matters, a terrible assault is no better than a light mech, could be even worse actually.
Playing in a group should also be encouraged, maybe with a premium time like c-bills and exp bonus that stacks with actual premium time IF you're playing in a group.

That Grand Conquest had 750 tickets again instead of 2000 (on the HPG Manifold). There will be another one tomorrow.
