In case anyone has been living under a rock. You've might've noticed a nice little Easter egg at the end of Hire Steel's latest. Yep. And it's coming MWO: Atlas II.

There're three variants, and three custom variants. One for Nicky Kerensky and the other for Devlin Stone. The last one is a total unknown.

Cannot wait!

Just curious, why is it called "Atlas II", and not "Atlas IIC"? ;) :) ;)

Very excited! :)

The mechs named "IIC" are clan mechs.
While the Atlas II is at an Inner Sphere mech.

Think, to take an example of mechs already in MWO, Marauder-II is IS and Marauder-IIC is clan.

The TMC Atlas II will be MW5 Mercs only, it won’t be seen in MWO.

The mech model was made for a much more modern implementation, with over 4 times the polycount of some of our most complex mechs. It is too dense for MWO.

Isn't there a way you could make the Atlas II into a Legendary Mech? I mean you wouldn't have to do much, but make a new head and shoulders for it as bolt-ons and recycle the Atlas' body.

Actually, Nicky boy's variant is total IS chasis, but the weapons are total Clan Tech.

As for not coming MWO, Tiyi0s, you're totally wrong. That version can't be used in MWO, due to the Ppolygon count. However, use the current Atlas, by add a Ballistic Right Arm, add 2 Laser HP to the left torso with a Missile HP, and then add two Energy HP to the left arm.

MW5 version stays exclusive to MW5. While the MWO version will look and feel like MWO. You did this with the Nova to Black Hawk KU. The Bushwacker to Gauntlet. Why stop there?

Assuming they did exactly that, how strong do you thing the backlash would be?
The Black Hawk KU and Gauntlet are basically reskins, but the Atlas II is definitely not. It has a very distinct geometry and is also an iconic mech.
If PGI released an slightly tweaked Atlas and called it an Atlas II they would be burnt at the stake by the mob.

I am not a 3D-expert, but...
Models could be dumbed down from high-poly to low-poly. At least I used to convert stuffs for good, old Neverwinter Nights that way...
I guess MWO models are low-poly with bump-map and meshes converted from high-poly models?

Still, Atlas II... Aren't there any other mechs? Just stay away from Atlas III dudes, or your brains would melt! (+ MW DA Atlas, man that is horrible!)

This is something we’ve been mulling over in Cauldron. The Atlas II, per catalyst art, has a different skull, shoulder pads, forearms, and weapon mounts. It would be an interesting legend or booster mech idea, though it would require more time than I usually allocate for that kind of content.

I said the TMC Atlas II would not be seen in MWO. What about that was incorrect?

Fine. Whatever.

I for one appreciate the transparency, even if it's not the kind of news everyone wants to hear. I honestly thought MW5 Mercs already reached end-of-life in terms of development, so it's good to know there's more in the pipes.

Good luck out there.

Well atleast it been discussed, I been wondering would the Akuma be a good project for you to mess with since it only thing to change from the base Atlas model is the head and right arm and shoulder, or you focused on something else in the mean time?

My two cents on this matter. If a serious consideration on adding the Atlas II to MWO is on the table, then I say it needs to be done right and not just be a legendary/booster mech. It should look the part. I know resources are tight so if ultimately it comes down to just modifying the AS7-D chassis hardpoints and head, then I can accept that. However, I feel like this mech is a bit too.... historic? I would at least like Cauldron to brainstorm a bit for quirks on making this mech fun for the IS and Clan's Unity variant.

No. I'm just giving up and let sleeping dogs lie. Best to quit while I'm ahead.
