I haven't played this game since, I think shortly after the first resistance package released? I was a founder and played since the early release until...I think it was a few months after the $500 dollar mech tomfoolery. When they implemented the faction warfare it was still a work in progress, maybe 2015-16ish? I was pretty prolific in the game and on the forums during that time.
In any case, a buddy had brought up the game and I was curious to see what all changed. I played most of the day yesterday and wow, all the changes you improved upon have been great since the early years. Myself, and a few others suggested the decal system and it was cool to see how it was implemented. I like how you have the events tracking now, and it seems like the tournament tracking and playability has improved a lot since you first started doing them (at least I hope so, I see you ran a lot more so hopefully improved).
The UI has improved, but still some issues. I got a cache, no clue what that was and taunted by the "1 unopened cache" with no idea how to open it. I had to look up and found an answer on reddit how to actually open it. I would like to suggest if you have an unopened cache, that there be the number (unopened caches) next to/on [inventory] and then [supply cache] tabs to help identify where it's at.
I really like and dislike the skill tree for mechs. It is a good improvement over the mastered mech system from before. There is a good variety to mix/match and not all the same skills will be used for every mech. That being said, there are like 3-4 skills that every mech will take or should take, and would need a strong or gimmick reason not to take them. Which ends up being a bulk of skill points. I'm also surprised you didn't do specific weapon 'specialization' skills in addition to the generic laser/ballistic/missile ones or at least groupings (large laser, LPL, LXPL, ERLL...).
I have not had a chance to do the faction play, (current draconis combine vs ghost bear) the couple times I did try it never launched, I assume not enough people as it kept reloading the ~2 minute timer. No clue if the base destroying maps are in it still, or if it's a quick play equivalent. I am curious about the competitive play option coming soon, but I don't think any of the people I played with before still play, I am curious why it was changed from 12 vs 12 to 8 vs 8. perhaps more impactful when a mech is lost? also requires less people on a team.
Overall I can see the vasts amount of improvements that was made over the years. It's all a net positive and good job overall. The rebranding of legends for a clean slate seemed to work out as well. I always have fun playing the matches solo or group, just life gets away from you. I plan to stick around for a while and see where the game goes from here. With that, it's pretty funny that of all the new maps created, people still play the same 3 maps from when I've played: tourmaline, canyon, hpg. I kept trying to pick other maps to see them and got out voted.
Edit: lol I forgot I had this tag VV
