I've gotten really tired of the long range slap fights.
I don't want to sound like a grognard, so I apologize in advance.
The way that the game is incentivizing play right now, that's what it leans towards. It's lame and frankly between that and how much damage long range weapons do relative to short range weapons, there's no reason to not play like this. However this is balanced out, something needs to be done to correct this. It's the singular thing that has made me quit this game is when everyone I'm playing with acts skittish over and over again, matches turn into a slow placed mess of standing around. It's also made playing light mechs down right awful too.

It would be really awesome to see things get back to that, brawling in MW5 is so much fun, I just wish I could do it in MWO too.

I really appreciate you guys at PGI, if I were in your neck of the woods I'd buy the MWO team lunch for all the good times I have had with this game over the years. It's hands down my favorite game I have played.

...oh and as an aside, the Gauntlet was ingenious, there were also Centurion, Firestarter and Blackjack Omnimechs as well Posted Image

... Brawling weapons do MUCH more damage than long-range guns, particularly for the heat they cost. Go run the math.

Brawling is very viable in QP, lots of good ones, but it is one of the more difficult play styles to pull off for most people, you need to be very conscious and aware of what's going on in the map, and also very patient, too many people won't think about this or will get impatient and will walk into a position that makes them easy to be farmed by a mech with more range, I used to do this all the time lol.

I don't know how you're playing but my advice would be to think about this, and also play easier to play brawlers, so instead of Small Lasers and MGs on lights and mediums, try stuff like Snubs with magshots (Which fast poptarts with APG/Mags and PPCs are honestly probably the meta loadout for lights and mediums right now)

And for Assaults instead of stuff like SRMs and LBx20s try stuff more like AC20s and Snubs, for example there is a Marauder II variant that has HSL so it does this very well.

Doesn't have to be exactly these builds, but this is kind of the range bracket to aim for when building good easy to play brawlers in QP imo, and don't be afraid to play a little out of optimal if you have to.

Other brawl stuff can definitely work fine but it's much more difficult in my opinion.
These are easier because they play more like short range traders than standard in your face brawlers most of the time, so they can more easily do damage throughout the match, while still being able to brawl later in the match when that scenario is more likely to happen.

Regardless I would actually like to see ERLL range toned down a bit more on both IS and Clan.

The less we see of the old Clanner Skyline Laser Rave, the better. ERLLs need to have more range than standard (obviously,) but sometimes it feels oppressive to just get finger-painted from a thousand meters away.
