WHAT IS THE RAPTOR?

The Raptor is a 25 ton Inner Sphere Omnimech, introduced shortly after the Clan Invasion.

WHY THE RAPTOR?

It adds another 25 tonner to the lineup, another IS Omni (an interesting one with a bit of lore to it). It has a number of pod options including a variant with jump jet pods, some surprisingly competent looking stock loadouts, decent speed (on par with the Mist Lynx).

HOW WOULD THEY DO IT?

Well...

Damn if this thing doesn't look a lot like a Flea if they REALLY have to get a little lazy, but they did do a little extra work with the SHD IIC.

There are so many mechs and so many variants of mechs in MWO that there's basically no mech yet to be added that does something one of our variants doesnt already do.

That means any time someone says "yawn, boring, lets get something new" it should be dismissed. Rule of cool is basically the only requirement for new mechs now, so why not the raptor?

I just want a strider, with a locked standard 240 engine, and locked standard armour, and locked single heat sinks it would need the most absurd quirks to not be DOA

The Raptor is a lot cooler than the Gauntlet or BHKU, cooler than the Bane. Arguably cooler than the SHD IIC though I have a massive Unseen fetish and love mediums.

Would it be successful?

Dunno. I am fairly confident good light pilots would make people cry hard in this thing.

It also looks like a walking toaster oven so quite possibly the worst hitboxes imaginable.

Make the case for a new chassis in MW5 first. Then figure out how it fills a niche in MWO.

I imagine a good way to bring it and some of the other IS Omnis into MW5 would be an Operation Bulldog campaign (culminating in The Great Refusal). I think the Hauptmann, Men Shen etc would need to be pushed to a FedCom Civil War focused campaign. Bulldog already got touched on twice (MechCommander and MechWarrior 3 kindasorta) but it's pretty cool imo.

The Raptor is one of the first IS OmniMechs to walk off a production line after the Battle of Luthien. It is also one the OmniMechs I support. Also with with Raptor, if you mix up the Omnipods, then you can get an 11 Energy Hardpoint Omni that jumps. It also has enough speed for it to compensate for having an IS XL, especially when you Speed Tweak it.

For Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries
Sounds simple enough. Now as for the case of it being in Mechwarrior 5, here is where I can see it in Mercenaries. Given the fact that the 7th DLC, Shadow of Kerensky's story focuses on 3050-3052, PGI could make an 8th DLC that could have Mason help the Draconis Combine against the Clan threat. PGI could make the story that also focuses on the later aspects of the Clan Invasion (3053-3058) and as a part of the story. The way how the story could go is: the DCMS, remembering Mason's help from the Dragon's Gambit DLC, grants Mason and his crew numerous IS OmniMechs to test out as a way to combat the Clan's OmniMech Technology like a Guinea pig unit. These mechs consist of: Raptor (3052), Avatar (3056), Black Hawk KU (3055) and Sunder (3056) (all of which were Omnimechs created by the Draconis Combine). You get the Raptor first during a campaign against the Smoke Jaguars, but after the year progress, you start seeing more IS OmniMechs coming out. The 8th DLC for Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries could be named, "Re-Energized", "Cutting Edge" or "Counter Assault" or "Dragon's Fury".

This is what I have for the Raptor from my old IS Omni Awareness Thread:

Raptor - 25 tons
The Raptor was the first Inner Sphere OmniMech. Luthien Armor Works designed the Raptor as a proof of concept after months of studying OmniMech salvage recovered from the Battle of Luthien. The inherent ease of repair and ability to reconfigure loadout made the resulting OmniMech a premier recon and fast strike unit.

While the Raptor debuted in MechAssault 2: Lone Wolf in 2004, it wasn't "the" Raptor. Instead it was a new mech that was later canonized as the "Raptor II", unrelated to the original design.

Notable Pilots:
Jaqueline Tokawa - A MechWarrior in service with the Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery, Jaqueline Tokawa was the Chu-sa in command of Third Battalion of the elite First Genyosha in 3059, a position she retained through at least 3070. Jaqueline was a member of the First Genyosha from at least the early 3050s, and was one of the first DCMS MechWarriors to be issued with a RTX-10 Raptor OmniMech after Luthien Armor Works developed the design. Initially skeptical of the novel design, Jaqueline quickly became a fan of the 'mech.
