Clan honor is not the same as freebirth Draconis honor. Clan Honor is bred by success. A dead Drac is still dead no matter how much honor he claims to have.

That makes no sense.

I would claim that a Draconis pilot who has honor is much more honourable than any honor the Clans can offer. If you are bred for success, is there any glory from it? But rising through the lowest ranks and reaching the highest heights allows for honor to outlast any no-name clanner!

I would have to disagree. What of the freeborn clanners (Horse is a prime example) who has won glory and even a passage in the Rememberance? Sure you can't slight all clanners based on the arrogance of the TRASHBORN.

back on topic, I would absolutely pay to be a clanner. I just hope it doesn't turn out like the previous series, where individuals with clan mechs turned them into nagas with nothing but LRMs or MG boats. If you wanna play as clan, issue bachalls and have a code of honor.

Even as an Inner Sphere merc who has little care in the world except for the almighty C-Bill, I'm one of the few that honor the rules set by others. .... Unless my 'Mech was on fire before I get off my first shot, then that's something completely different.

Clan warfare is going to be dicey if they want to keep to canon at all; I totally agree with Chris.
Clans were *very* strict about how they engaged and were, according to the lore, very skilled pilots with superior hardware. They took pride in overwhelming the enemy with superior technique and strategy rather than just having more guns and armor to bear on OPFOR.

If-slash-when the Clans arrive on the scene, I hope it's handled very carefully.

Why does everyone think the clans will wipe the floor with the ragdoll scrap of dead IS mechs? Let us not forget that there are plenty of plenty of IS mechs that will wipe the floor with an equal BV clan mech. Devastator vs Hellbringer Prime, anyone?

As far as clans being Pay 2 Play, I dislike this concept for one reason: If I headcap a Kit Fox, I should be able to use it. Under the P2P system with clans, I would not be able to, thus robbing me of salvage, which at best is an immersion killer, and at worst painfully unfair.

Not everybody.

I more think that it's just going to turn into a well homogenized mix of technology with Clan/IS distinctions meaning very little except to a select few.

Granted, it's important to maintain a consumer base by making the game palatable (read: "simple enough") for players who aren't as "into it" as some of us are, but I was really super excited about a lot of things that the game was looking like it could have been... Heavily canon being one of those things.

In reference to P2P, I would suggest that, to be a clanner initially, you'd have to pay. That gives you immediate access to somewhat better tech (if you are skilled enough to use it right). On the otherhand, if you prefer IS and battle with a clanner and end up getting salvage, you shouldn't have to pay for it- you earned it through combat.
To coincide with the aforementioned thought, if it is a salvaged mech, it should have the came colorscheme as the House a member is a part of. :)

It will be nice to finally know how they are going to work the real money side of all this. If real money isn't going to obtain anything of tactical advantage in the game, it's probably not going to be stuff that I'm all that interested in (ie. vanity paintjobs, or whatever). However... I want this venture to be financially successful for the authors, so I'm sure I'll be buying something, in order to support them.

As for the 'pay to be a clanner' thing... aren't they being punished enough already? :)

Seriously though..., I suppose that could be an income source if handled properly, but much (obviously) remains to be seen. If the appearance of the clans is at least a year after the initial launch... some other source of income stream should be in place well before that.

I have no problem paying for this game.

I have been waiting like every one else, a long time for a new Mechwarrior game.
I am more then willing to pay $60 bucks for stuff in this game.

we'll just have to wait for the game to release and find out how it plays. Yeah the Clans side should be Pay 2 Play only.
