Were previous rockets polarizing?
I do think they were... most times I brought them or seen them deployed they either deleted someone at a cost of lengthy overheat... in many cases mech carrying them was a light that had nothing else and was meant to just trade for an assault and go back to lobby.
It felt amazing to score this backshot.
it felt *** to die to this kind of backshot.
They certainly seemed to polarize people both on discords, reddits, and alike... and have in mind - cauldron uses discord to gather data for patches.
As much as we could try to ponder how much skill was required to kill or avoid being killed this way the weapon had very high highs and very low lows... furthermore it was promoting way of playing where one had barely any regard to one's mech cause You could just press one button and in fraction of a second do all the damage You were ever gonna do.
Yeah, new launchers are a little odd and very different... but frankly... I'll take this over previous iteration any day.
I seen people ragequit throwing headseats over previous ones... especially when killer was equipped only with RL... it felt like "screw-you-in-particullar" button... and since the economy doesn't punish pilot for throwing mech away after one-shot thing there was nothing to calm pilot's nerves about it.
I personally gotta admit that as much as I did regard mechs equipped with only RL as mostly meme that went against the feel of the game I still brought one out every now and then.
I will not miss old RL being gone and would not want them back unless there'd be more incentive to not just throw a light mech away with 1-shot button.
