Can't really vote on what I would like, as the option is not there.

First and foremost, though? I want the sword GONE. Battletech swords are beyond idiotic. The issue HUMAN swords had against heavier armor is the lack of mass, and the way it is distributed over a long surface, meant most sword were lousy slashing weapons against good armor. In fact in western culture, one of the biggest reason Knights and Nobles used swords is that most of those they fought were unarmored, or lightly armored, and against another knight, you had a lesser chance of killing him, thus allowing for capture and ransom, which was a big income maker in medieval warfare.

When people really wanted to open some cans, they relied on axes, military picks, warhammers and polearms, all objects that magnified their mass over much smaller striking areas.

On a Mech? that thing would just scratch a paint job. And break.

I say give it one of these

http://home.comcast..../Tetsubo-01.jpg

a tetsubo war-club, also used by the ancient samurai, or a Naginata, something that actually makes sense.

Other than that, it needs to be industrialized some, but not "samuraied" as I think it was more supposed to be like the Akuma, and kinda reflect the demonic look.

What I had in mind for the head was an Oni with a laser mounted on its mouth...

Japanese like to inspire fear with their armor after all

My approach on the "Samurai look" is to make use of ERA bricks or segmenting armor

Also, request granted. There is now an option for another melee weapon :P

Be sure to specify what you want though

heh... Tetsubo for the win! Ever see them use that thing on "Deadliest Warrior"? I dunno what the CGL rulebooks say, but I remember that in the old level 3 rules, while war clubs were more awkward, and had a ti-hit penalty, they did double the damage of a hatchet,

alternatively, the Katana can be modified into Tanto tip profile which makes it a piercing weapon rather than slashing weapon :P

I believe the blade would still prove to weak/brittle for the job of piercing mech armor, and either bend or break. Not to be a killjoy, just as a former fencer/ kendo practitioner, and member of the SCA (make armor! Drink mead! And bash each other with VERY LARGE STICKS!!!! YAY!) I just think this is an application for the poor old sword just ain't cut out for.

No-Dachi needs a redesign, bad. Keep the sword but make it look more like something you use as a club which all melee weapons are more or less, a giant katana really doesn't make sense.

Next thing is the overall body: like the original Black Knight art work, it looks too much like the tin man. I would model it a little more after the Axe Man. The demonic face mask is a nice idea also poorly executed IMO, something closer to a actual samurai mask (only more simplistic and angler) may fit

Vibroblade wants a word with you...

I say VIBROKATANA! Make it look high-tech like it belongs on a mech!

I agree w/ Keyne, something like a vibroblade would be hot! As for trading out the sword for a blunt/piercing/chopping type weapon, it just doesn't stick w/ the No-Dachi theme. If you're going for an artsy re-design I think you could do some really neat stuff stylistically to bring the old design into the present. But, I'm not very crafty when it comes to drawing, so I'm no help there.

Tekken's Yoshimitsu would be a great source for inspiration, though any design should be distinct enough to set it apart.

Considering that a "No-Dachi" is the samurai's equivalent to a Zweihander, it would be silly for it to be equipped with anything BUT a sword.

The No Dachi was always pretty silly looking, though. It could well afford a facelift.

If anything, a No-Dachi drawn to represent the 2KO or 2KC variants would be a huge improvement by far. MRM racks are less than ideal.

please dear god, end the madness........

first.. I know that they made level 3 mech vibroswords. And few bigger, dumber mech abortions have ever been conceived.

Read simply how a vibroblade works.... the oscilations don't act like a turkey carving electric knife (as that would be worthless against armor) but by oscilating the blade so fast that air friction superheats the edge allowing it to slice through like ... well like a hot knife thru butter (or a heated needle thru a plastic model kit).

Aside from the sheer mass of the mandatory motors to attempt to vibrate a 20 ft long sword, (which would more resemble a fat broadsword, NOT a katana), the blade surface would work against it, as the whole of the blade with it's llong surface area would actually act like a heat sink, sapping the heat off, and making it nearly impossible to achieve.

Lastly, such a slim blade, oscilating or not, would still be USELESS against the heavy armor on a mech, and the heated edge would be largely useless against armor plates composed of diamond monofilaments, and ablative (aka heat shedding) ceramics.

Seriously, if there were a more Gundam-ish idea than that, IDK what it could be (short of the mechs having.... oh... sustained flight?)

and as for the Mech name... then the sword would have to be half again as long as the mech (about 45 ft) and be weilded 2 handed... since it would be silly to equip a mech named no-dachi with a frikkin Katana instead of ...well.. a no dachi?

Seriously, not my fault some ***** at FanPro or Fasahad a gundam fetish, but mech swords are just a stupid idea, because barring the discovery of adamantium, they simply wont work. Mech axes and swords are essentially bevelled clubs, aka they rely on heavy mass over a smalll surface area to damage.

Now I'm gonna hafta make a Kurita Victor Variant carrying a Tetsubo....
