If I remember correctly...the gray death memory core started the return of some lost tech, and every house in the inner sphere was starting to field it, i dont remember the dates but i do know that it wasnt in great numbers. and it should be in the time of 3045 to 3050. I will have to open my books. good question and post. ......
If you look in the 3050 book (unseen) it will give the time line will support what i said. and we all know comstar does have sldf mechs and can still produce them. as a matter of fact comstar gave stripped down mechs like crabs and others to house k to support their war against fedcom
(Steiner and Davion)because the gains from 4th secession war. Comstar was trying to keep fedcom under control because they feared the growing power of the fedcom union.

If lost tech and or clan tech is availible in the game; Wouldn't it be sensible to think it would be experience gained to unlock?
Btw whom ever thinks there will only be PVP and not one single NPC in the game is dreaming. I've yet to play a game on pc that didn't have some sort in it. You think that in the first minutes of the game youll be waiting for someone to be at the end of your mission parameters to join in to complete it? Omg!

Well, current stae of information is there will be no PvE at game launch likely. That says nothing what it might look like 6 months later after an eventual first big expansion. If you take into account that integration of off-board artillery or airstrikes i.e. is way easier with them as "NPC units" initially, so yeah, that might be a borderline matter anyway.

I woudl guess that not only do you have to unlock "lostech" but it will be very expensive in-game to buy and equip.

Check the FAQ, no PvE, just PvP, and it's not the only game to do that. Tribes had a simple tutorial you could run to learn how to move and fire you weapons, but that was the total extent of it's non-PvP play, no PvE at all in that game. It's not unheard of for a purely PvP based online game to not have PvE, especially in the online play. CoD/BF and even Planetside leap to mind, as well as Return to Castle Wolfenstein and the various Quake and Unreal games when it came to online play.

Kristov. Most of those games you named have a standalone theme and not just solely PVP. So they do have npc's in them, however not in the PVP portion.

Yeah, there are naturally a lack of details at this point, but what I've read really points to a World of Tanks-style system. Public PVP battles for the majority of game-play; claimable territory for clans to fight over; no PVE and a hangar full of new-rides to keep the carrot firmly in front of the players. Given the relative success of WoT, this makes it an easier sell to investors. I would prefer a much larger, complex system, but I"m still eagerly awaiting more details either way. Simple WoT-style will just limit the amount of time/money I end up dumping on this game ^_^.

No PVE NPCs. You MIGHT get a tutorial NPC but it's more likely you will get a voiced tutorial with target dummies to shoot. Remeber this is not a full on MMO it's instanced matches maybe there will be escort missions but those likely wont really be npcs so much as "objects" on rails

Also games with no NPCs? team fortress 2, Battlefield games (1942 and 2142 atleast haven't played the others), Counterstrike (Hostages don't count as meaningful NPCs),

By "ComStar" tech, do you mean LosTech that has not yet been rediscovered or re-distributed to the Inner Sphere Houses? Because, at this point, ER Lasers and other formerly LosTechs were back into production thanks to the Helm Memory Core and the NAIS.

Maybe players who gain more Experience or something may be honored with the right to acquire genuine SLDF Mechs and equipment that would be otherwise difficult/impossible to obtain by a lowly mercenary or an ordinary House Mech pilot.

I suspect too that you'll see some form of clan/lostech coming from the WD, as they showed up with SLDF style mechs upon their reintroduction to the IS
