I will finish this eventually... i hope

This story is about the destruction of the 3rd Skye Rangers "Freedom's Star" on

the mountains outside of the capital of the planet Freedom in the Isle of Skye. I

also have it posted on the Skye rangers forums which i originally wrote this for.

Blame Flawless for the names. i am really bad at coming up for them so i asked

him to do so. It is told from the viewpoint of the 2nd battalion commander Erin

"Heartbreaker" Hans (god it was hard to write an explanation for that callsign...

This section is the start of the chapter that details some events that happen

prior to the Draconis combine landing 3 combined arms regiments outside the

planets capitol.

Erin Hans sat in the 3rd row of the battalion briefing center. Usually as the

battalion commander she would be the one up at the podium, but today was

special. A new recruit was on the way to 2nd battalion of the 3rd Skye Rangers.

With him added to the roster it brought them up to the full authorized 36 pilots.

Her battalion was assigned to help guard the planet Freedom in the Isle of Skye.

The rest of the garrison consisted of 2 armor battalions originally from Tamar

and the rest of the 3rd Skye. Usually the first job a recruit had when they got to

their posting was to report to their commanding officer. However in her battalion

a little ritual joke had spread. Every new pilot went through a rite of passage.

The new pilot’s name was Private Timothy “Grey” Greyson. He was here fresh

out of Sanglamore academy. He had even brought a Shadow Hawk that had

fought in both the first and second succession wars. Major Hans also had a

familial battlemech with her. Her Nightstar was an extremely rare mech that had

seen combat all the way back to the reunification wars. Luckily for her, her

ancestors had decided not to follow General Aleksandr Kerensky. Instead they

had kept the SLDF mech and enough spare parts to keep it running for a while.

Though soon her beloved mech may be forced to retire. Since the Nightstar had

not been produced since the First Succession War, due to the only facilities

producing the mech being destroyed, spare parts were becoming near

impossible to find. However her Nightstar Thor, due to her twin Gauss cannons

providing the thunder and the PPC providing the lightning, had served her well

over her 14 year career in the Rangers.

At age 34 she still had the figure and looks she had when she was 20. With her

still apparent youthfulness a little game had sprang up in her battalion.

Whenever a new pilot joined the unit, Senior Sergeant Major Klara “Kitten”

Oswin would take over the battalion briefing. She would direct the new pilot to sit

next to Erin without telling them who it was. With her medium length curly blond

hair, petite figure, and a voluptuous chest, no one so far had been able to resist

hitting on her. She would feign interest, just long enough to get them interested.

Usually the first meeting would lead to a date. She would play the dutiful date

just long enough for them to pay for dinner, then she would break the news to

them, leave, and let the rest of the unit pick up their newly heartbroken

comrade. In her 4 years as the Kommodant of the unit, no newbie had figured

out what they were about to go through. But her tactics had left her with a very

apt nickname, “heartbreaker”.

When Private Greyson entered the room Erin’s first reaction was that his

nickname was right. Greyson seemed to be tinged gray. His skin had a pallor to

it that almost made him seem like a vampire. Between that and the glasses it

was obvious that he had not spent much time outside before the military.

Though how basic had failed to tan up his skin tone was beyond her.

“Private Timothy Greyson reporting for duty, mam” he said to Klara with a

nasally tone.

“You barely made it on time Private, did you have better plans or something?”

Klara shot back.

“NO, MAM. I just got a bit turned around trying to find this room.”

“Then get your *** over to the seat next to Ms. Hans in the corner there before I

make you drop and give me 50.”

“Yes, mam…”

When he had sat down the first thing Erin did when Greyson had sat down was

to introduce herself.

“Hello Private Greyson, my name is Erin Hans. Sorry about Sergeant Oswin

giving you such a hard time. She is really nice once you get to know her.”

“Wait, she isn’t the unit commander?”

"No, silly. The unit commander didn’t feel like doing the briefing today. So she

had sergeant Oswin take over.” She said in a girlish voice.

“But why have a sergeant do the meeting?”

“Because Senior Sergeant Major Oswin is the battalion’s topkick.” She replied

matter-of-factly.

“Oh, so why are you here Ms. Hans, or should I call you Erin?”

It was obvious that Greyson had taken the bait and the entire unit knew it.

“To meet cute guys like you, of course.” She said in a suggestive manner.

“Well then I suppose we should get started” stated Sergeant Klara.

“Well I will talk to you after the meeting, Timmy” she said while going back to her

girlish tone.

Erin knew that she had private Greyson hooked on her like a blind bass. But to

reinforce the fantasies that even now must be running through his mind, Erin

unbuttoned the next button on top of her uniform. She then slid her chair closer

to Timothy and leaned on him. His expression was one of both surprise and

delight as he got a great view down into her cleavage. She then proceeded to

move her hand onto the inner part of his thigh but made sure not get too far up

it. She stayed that way as Sergeant Oswin informed everyone that House Kurita

was massing for an assault on the region. With Freedom in general, and it’s

capital Jefferson City in particular, having a good amount of production

capability for the war effort, it was extremely likely that the Combine would

launch an assault on the planet.

After the meeting concluded Erin made a move to leave. But as she was about

to walk out the door Private Greyson sort of stuttered “Ms. Hans or Erin is it…

Could we maybe… or you willing to go out with me to dinner… sometime…

maybe… please?”

Erin turned around, leaning forward with her elbows bending in to give the kid

the biggest eyeful he had probably ever seen and in her most seductive voice

said “I would love to, Timothy.” She then proceeded to give him a sexy wink and

left the room with Private Greyson standing awestruck inside.

As the members of the battalion left earshot of Private Greyson, who was still

standing in the briefing room, they started roaring with laughter. They knew the

kid would be their CO’s newest victim. After all her call sign wasn’t

“Heartbreaker” for nothing.

When Erin returned to her room she had a visitor. Klara was sitting on a chair

facing the door.

“Erin, I don’t think it is such a good idea to mess with the kid with the combine

nearly at our doorstep. We can’t afford the emotional fallout affecting his ability

to fight.”

“Nonsense, it builds character. Plus I don’t think he has seen a pair of knockers

this big before.” She said while squeezing her ******* for emphasis. “Plus if I don’t

the unit won’t accept him as one of their own.”

“Still, we need every MechWarrior we can get. Even if Greyson is still wet behind

the ears.”

“Then maybe you should be the one to explain it to him.” She said as she

started changing into her casual duty uniform. While still not showing her true

rank it was still more comfortable and did not constrict her chest.

“Maybe I will." she said.

Two days later Erin had her “date” with Private Greyson. He had taken her to

one of the 3 star restaurants in the area. He said he would have taken her to a 4

star but he couldn’t get reservations. Erin has dressed up in the tightest dress

she could fit her tight little *** and huge bust into. She then completed the

ensemble with a black belt with a red hourglass on it.

The conversation was rather stale as Greyson talked about his life as the son of

a miner in the Kimball system. Erin was half surprised when he told her that she

was one of the first women he had ever met. The mining colony he had lived at

was considered too dangerous for women to be in.

“You must have been so lonely…” she said flirtatiously.

“I honestly didn’t know what I was missing until I left the colony… until I met

you…”

The talk eventually shifted to her. He asked all kinds of questions about Erin.

For the most part she answered them truthfully. Eventually he asked her what

mech she piloted.

“I am the proud pilot of a Nightstar. I call him Thor for the thunder of the gauss

and the lightning of the particle cannon.”

“I hear the commander of this unit pilots a Nightstar. So there are two in this

unit? That would be unusual considering how rare it is.” He questioned.

Erin’s only thought to that was it was time to drop the hammer on the kid’s

fantasies.

“No there is only one Nightstar in this unit.”

A ripple of shock crossed Greyson’s face as he realized who Erin must be.

“You… You can’t be the commander.”

“Sure I can.” She knocked back the rest of her Irish whiskey. “My name is

Kommodant Erin Hans. And if I remember right, regs forbid relationships with the

people I command. So thanks for the dinner I am going to be going now.” Then

she left.

Klara was waiting outside the restaurant. She was leaning against the light pole

outside the front door. She saw Erin walking out the front door. While most

people would not consider her to be as attractive as Erin, “Kitten” as she was

called was no ugly duckling. Even shorter than Erin she was barely over 5 feet

tall. She however had a face that could melt the heart of even the coldest man.

Her bright green eyes had a glow that made her seem younger than her 33

years of age, though she still appeared older than Erin. Her petite frame

boasted a modest rack, but Klara knew how to make the most of it. Her hair was

as dark of a red as Erin’s hair was brilliantly blonde.

About a half hour later she saw Private Greyson walking out of the restaurant

looking thoroughly rejected. Not even noticing Klara standing there he took a

seat on the pavement. Klara walked over to him and said in a tender voice

“Private Greyson, you okay?”

Seeing another of his commanders standing there, his response was “are you

here to crush my spirit as well?”

“Luckily for you I think you have had enough spirit crushing for one lifetime. I am

here to explain what is going on.”

“What you mean me getting played for a fool by the battalion’s commander?” he

sobbed. “The entire unit is going to ridicule me for this. I won’t be able to ever

show my face to them ever again.”

“On the contrary, this will actually help the unit accept you.” She stated.

Looking up from his self-pity with a look of a surprise “wait, WHAT?” he said incredulously.

“She does this to every new recruit who joins this battalion.” She pointed out.

“Every single person in this unit besides Caption Petrus and me went through

this exact same routine. Petrus because he had actually been in the battalion

longer than Erin and myself because I grew up with her on Skye. You aren’t

special in that regard. It is considered to be a rite of passage in the unit. Unity

she isn’t known as Erin “Heartbreaker” Hans for nothing.”

“So what you are saying was THIS WAS ALL A GAME?” he shouted angrily.

“Yeah and you got baited hook, line, and sinker.”

“God I am an ***** for believing such an attractive woman liked me…” he pouted.

“You realize in the four years since Kommodant Hans took control of the

battalion not a single person has figured out her angle? You are not the first to

fall for it and I daresay you won’t be the last.”

“Well Sergeant Major Oswin, thanks me for letting me in on this secret.”

“It was no secret. Usually some of the enlisted would be here to explain things to

you. But I stepped in to help in the hopes that you will be ready for combat as

soon as possible.”

“I guess Ms. Hans was right. You are an extremely nice person once one gets to

know you.”

“I sure am hon, now go back to base and get some sleep. The welcoming

ceremony will be at around 9 in the units mess.”

“What welcoming ceremony?” He questioned.

“You’ll see.” She said with a bit of a teasing wink then walked away leaving

Timothy almost as confused as when she had approached him.
