Let the masses of people come in slowly? If this community is not pro-active and does not go to the trouble to promote their own franchise thoroughly before launch, I think you may be disappointed with the size and rapidity of those incoming "masses".

My thoughts exactly, a new trailer would do wonders for generating interest. Launching the community forums and whatnot is great, but unless you have something to add a little bang to the announcement, it slips by somewhat unnoticed. I understand making trailers requires time and money, but I think it would massively increase interest in the game, at least more so than a now nearly three year old trailer.

When PGI is ready, Im sure they will put out a video and announcements. So if you personally want to take on the rsponsibility to recruit in quantity, be my guest! I used to be a sales manager and you can't sell something without having something tangible to show them. People want to see it, taste it, smell it, feel it, touch it! You know?

I'm looking forward to Planetside 2, but I'm not going to do anything other than look at the occasional trailer (and only the hi-res ones at that) until there's actually a game out I can lay down money for.

I've seen lots of games fail because of this mindset. People think they have to bring in their audience quickly, or the game will never catch on. That's totally wrong.
If the game is good, and receives good reviews, the audience WILL come. It's all about quality over quantity. In the long run, it's better to have a smaller community with good players, than a large one filled with rude kids and disrespectful dirtbags.

"If we build it (and it gets good reviews) they will come"

As much as I love Rockin fools in COD and BF I would much rather pilot a mech. Countless hours that would otherwise be spent playing the previously mentioned games are going to be dedicated to MWO.

First of all, this guy has it right. None of my 15+ Mechwarrior loving friends are on these forums because they're like "all they have is concept art and ideas about what the game might be. I'll join up when there's a game to play/talk about." They aren't calling it vaporware, but some of them are less-than thrilled about the PvP only aspect, others are very happy about it. Personally I'd like a new single-player Mechwarrior, and that might come to fruition if this game is successful, and I'd love to be a part of both. Anyway, my point was, yes, many people won't care until there's more "out there" - for me, I love every little bit and piece I can get, so I'm here every day for the IS news updates, and I look forward to every Wednesday every week. People who want to get in a giant robot and shoot other giant robots probably won't care very much and they're like "lol it's been a month and all they did was give you a picture of a Catapult?"
So give it time. Come Feb, or maybe late Jan, there might be screenshots or videos or something, maybe a model, we'll see. The more things in the game, the more "hype" it will generate - that's why the 2009 trailer was so fantastic - it looked playable, it looked like a game people would drop money on RIGHT THEN to play. Same with Hawken. So PGI is probably waiting until they can put together a trailer that will blow people away for MWO.
Planetside 2 is an excellent example. They made this:
This shows a lot. I mean a real lot. On top of some design ideas from members of their staff, it features in-game footage. With players, tanks, aircraft, weaponry, all created, implemented, maybe not balanced, but playable to the point of "I could actually do this and it looks pretty awesome." Maybe the rocket lighting isn't just right, but bottom line is you can see the multiplayer impacts, you can see the shooty bits, you can feel the tank on tank action, whatever. If/When PGI puts out their trailer, you can bet it will give this feeling, the "This is a complete game and I can't wait to play it" feeling, not the "Well this is kind of cool, I'll wait until it's done" feeling.

Summer of 2012 mean anything to you?
Let me expand, the game is probably not to much further away from launch then 3 months. Nothing can end a game like a launch with too few players. If a review comes out that 'its a small comunity' people will be like 'why do i want to play there? there is no one to play with' that hurts just as much.

My thoughts exactly. The thing here is, you need a developed community to launch a game properly. Currently we have 40,000+ people signed up on the forums. That may sound like a lot, but let's be honest here, that's really not a huge number. I am more than willing to go to bat for piranha and promote this game like a mad man, hell I'd spend my own money to promote this game, buying them ad space and whatnot.
The problem is, we don't really have any ammo so to speak. We need something concrete to show people if we want to get them excited for the game. Throw us a bone here piranha, it will do you a lot of good in the end.

I occasionally would search the web for "mechwarrior 5" to see what the status was.
Had no idea it had changed to be mwo.
That being said, I think if more people who enjoyed the mechwarrior series knew about mwo the community would grow.

Can't really compare this to Warhammer and EVE though, since those games are active. Hasn't been much MW action on pc recently, unless you're referring the the great crysis mod.
