My fav is the raven. Its fast and agile, and can run circles around larger mechs.

I once took down a Daishi in a raven. Armed with a CSRK6 and a ER Small laser. He just couldnt keep up with me.

But gone (or havent happened yet) are the days of the clan mechs and weapons.

Yes but, if there is an equal playing field, really, why pine for clan? The battle will last longer, the strategy is a bit more intense without clan tech. did you run out of ammo? Also, if you had been piloting the Daishi, would the raven have won?

The clans brought new weapons into the game, new variants, much cooler mechs, classic mechs that we loved like the Mad Cat, Shadow Cat, and others, and exciting lore that wasnt restricted to the inner sphere. The houses are just boring political crap, and princes and princesses I couldnt give a crap about. After MechCommander 2 I hated House Stiener with a passion. The story of MW4 wasnt very apealing to me, But I loved MW3. Its a shame MW3 wont run properly on Windows 7 otherwise I'd play it.

"I hope Sean and Omid do their flock of Jenners attack again - that's hilariously awesome times. Anyone who thinks Atlas' are going to be OP needs to see Jenners over-running twice their numbers in heavy and assault 'Mechs." (Mechwarrior Online Facebook page). No clan mechs at the start. No advanced tech at the start. No Unseen at the start. But Jenners, lots of Jenners. ;)

Well one of my favourite mechs full stop is the Wolfhound, a perfect balance of armour, firepower and speed. This is basicly a medium mech pretending to be a light mech. I actually think the design is a little too optimised but I will definitely buy mech space and one of these when they become available.

I'm also a massive fan of the Valkryie, good armour and a LRM 10 makes this a great command mech for a recon group. It has enough armour to survive a few hits, the range to keep other mechs honest and unlike the Panther is fast enough to support other scout mechs,

and the classic light mech the Locust, fast cheap and common this one of the best light mechs of the battletech universe.

WLF-1 WOLFHOUND:
A light, rugged, and dependable design; the Wolfhound made its first appearance in 3028. The 'Mech is built to be a direct counter to the Panther used by the Draconis Combine. The 'Mech's payload consists entirely of energy weapons, which means that if not careful, a poorly trained MechWarrior can easily overheat the machine, although the 'Mech does use double heat sinks to attempt to alleviate the heat buildup of the 'Mech. The Wolfhound is heavily armored for its size with seven and a half tons of armor and has a maximum speed of 97.2 kph. Because it does not use an extra-light engine and carries no explosive ammunition, the Wolfhound can potentially weather severe amounts of damage before being forced to retreat off of the field. The Wolfhound also includes the same Full-Head Ejection System as the Hatchetman.

This is the Best light by far!
ONLY downside is lack of jumpjets

The Devs say that there will be varients for mechs available, If thats true i'm going for the Wolfs Dragoons version of the Wasp. I've seen and done some evil things with one of those on a tabletop.

The Puma may be butt ugly, but I love it just the same. It's a very aptly named mech, easily able to take down much larger oponents. I can't think of many clan mechs that would have represented a bigger shock to the IS than a 35 ton light running around with a pair of PPCs.

The Cougar is another favorite of mine, though more on looks. At only 86kph, it's not only slower than many mediums, but it's not even faster than a Madcat (it's technically slower). It's impressively armed, but not enough, in my opinion, to make up for the lack of speed. You might as well just take a medium. Though in a war I'd field them anyday, because a 35 ton mech's a lot easier to produce than a medium  That's got to be worth something.

Panther has always been my 1st Light Mech choice in Mechwarrior RPG.

A Personnal Variant using ER PPC, Double HS, XL Engine for 6/9/6 Speed and lotsa EW components.

reseen Locust IIC. packs of them make me very happy, though i hold no hope of eventually piloting one in MW:O given the nature of the mech.

Well in the beginning when there was only about 10 mechs the Locust was my bread winner (tons to damage it was the perfered), but when I was introduced to the Jenner, and took away that SRM4 for more heatsinks, that was a beautiful mech. witha Walk of 7 and a run of 11, firing medium lasers into the firefight with good heat management and no ammo to worry about. Liked that I coudl always makeit move far enough were I woudl get the +3 to hit modifier vs my +1 for walking or +2 for running. and then there was a few token jump jets to get you out of trouble. By far supper nice. But if I had to pilot one into combat then the Marauder or the Awesome could not just give it out at range but also take some hits to boot.

Yup the Jenner all the way if we are talking IS mechs. If we go into clans as well I kind of like the Jenner IIC.
