Ok, I'm writing in hopes to try and get people on the same page. I do not agree with nor disagree with third person views. However, I think that MechWarrior needs to reach out to the MW community as a whole. Yes forced cockpit view stays true to the sim, and eliminates other multiplayer playability issues. But at the same time there must be a way to bring a third person perspective for those who are more comfortable playing the game that way.Maybe creating a system that keeps track of your mechs blind spots so to speak, so we wouldnt have problems with cheap tricks such as seeing/detecting people over walls and around corners without having line of sight or a scout to spot. I'm not complaining, I just want to see the community as a whole happy and supporting MWO!

There must not be a way to do any of that. The degradation of game play is not worth the chum that will make happy. I do appreciate your openness and willingness to make all sorts of MechWarriors happy,.. and I think somewhere, some Dev said something...

I have been talking to alot of old MW buddies out here and a good chunk dont want the game simply cause they cannot stay oriented properly without being outside of the mech, and then they always throw the fact that world of tanks has 2 different views and so on. Naturally i argue the point that WOT isnt a true SIM, all im saying is that the studios involved could profit from making the game more user friendly to all styles of players.

i agree, i too have difficulty staying oriented in first person views. im just as bad at halo and other games. im the guy running around in circles pointing at the sky.

I don't see any problem with a view from above & behind your mech. With 2012 technology, I can easily get a camera the size of a postage stamp on the end of a 20 foot fiberglass pole. For the price of 100 rounds of MG Ammo, I can get a lot of these, and easily build a mechanism to automatically replace each one if/when it gets shot off. If I want to get fancy, I could put 4 cameras on the pole for a 360° panoramic view. Yes, my opponent could try to shoot off such a small target, but that's one less shot at me.

The second there is 3rd person then old problems like pop-tarting appear again, it's for the best that the viewpoint is forced.

That, and Paul said we can't have it.

Ever see groundhogs pop up out of their holes?

Same thing, except is Jenners with MLAS, or other random weapons. Makes the game extremely 1 dimensional.

pop-tarting is if im not mistaken when you have a constant site over object at the enemy and you pop up and down shooting them.... gets stale after a minute. but thats why im saying, why cant they run it so it still keeps track of your line of site in third person? that way they cant see you all the time and all is well!

"External Camera: Engaged." "External Camera: Disengaged." Ah, fond memories of the computer voice of old. I would enjoy it again and the ability to oogle my mech in environment instead of mechbay.

As for how that'd work out, I direct you to the trailer where the Warhammer launches a UAV, there you go. External camera explained. *looks at the devs* Magic please?

P.S. This would also assist in aiming those death from above jump jet landings.

Keeps track of your sight line? Are you saying they should have invisible 'Mechs until "spotted"? NO. Let us not make this take the same flawed route as WoT,,,,

Because then they would have to implement some kind of crappy sighting system ala WOT, and anyone who has played that can tell you how horrendous it works or doesn't.

Thats not what i'm suggesting, i'm only looking at how this games detection system seems to work via sensors, visual etc. If there was a way to make a third person thats closer in behind the mech so you still couldn't get a good over head view, and at the same time adapt some sort of system that limits what you can and can not see. So there isn't an unfair advantage in terms of 3rd person vs cockpit cams.

As I've posted elsewhere, I agree to a certain extent that it feels claustrophic and a bit limiting... but that's kind of the point..

this game isnt for people that play third person shooters.

this game is a mech sim for battle tech fans.

leave the game alone, it is what it is, and nobody wants a third person shooter (that matters).
