I think it's necessary to have the opinion of third person view.I always used to turn to third person view and i love to see my hole mech..i look forward to hearing from stuff about this plan.

No it is NOT necessary. What is necessary is you learning situational awareness instead of dummy easy mode that can see over hills and buildings and around corners.

Who needs a third view can probably go without it on the road, or drive a car? Do you have a camera in the real world behind you, around you not to run? and it give Teamspeak ! for betrayer

I didn't even consider the idea of a third person view in this game.
It just never occurred to me.
And after consideration I must say. . .

Yeah, add third person view to let everyone zoom out and see what's happening behind you, making light mechs useless. Pathetic noobs.

I don't know, man. In MW4:M there was 3rd person and lights were anything but usless. That being said a light mech relies on speed and maneuvering for defence. In city environments, looking in another direction with the torso twist, limited visibility is not exactly an advantage. No matter how good your piloting is... that requires you to be either psycic or know maps so good you can manuever blind. Then of course, you can simply attack head on or accept running into buildings, but that are both poor options for a light mech wich doesn't want to be alphaed straight away.

I am not really convinced how thats supposed to help lights. Its not like they simply can sneak into the rear and tear apart an assault from behind. Even if we are talking a really slow mech this is still a team game. One on one tactics won't work reliably.

Of course 3rd person view is not the only imaginable solution tho that issue.

You could make light cockpits so that you can glance sideways without rotating the entire torso. But not all of them offer such luxury i guess.

hmmm neccesary is a strong word it's another way to say need
so do you need a third person view to drive your car? fly a plane? drive a tank? walk/run/jump/whatever else you do in life? the vast amjority of things in life are first person not third
and this is a mech simulator type game so would the pilot have the option of third person viewing? would he want one if he did? pretty much the only way you would get close to one is with a UAV
but then that was already mentioned and seems silly anyway for this game
so could you pilot without it? yes would it ruin certain parts of the game? yes is it more work for the devs? yes
so why do you want it i guess is the question oh and will it's lack of existence prevent you from playing the game? only you can answer those
if it is habit of play style i suggest replaying some of the earlier games in first person view that way you can get some practice in.

They won't. Did you not read the developer statements?

You never know, they may add it at some point.

3rd person view? No way.

The game doesn't need it. A hell of a lot of the folks around here would say they don't need it and don't want it. Did you ever play MW4 pvp wise? That was all you could do was use the outside cam because everyone else was doing it and thus, had an advantage. You really want to force people to have the play the thing in 3rd person because that's what implimenting it would do? You take the whole 1st person view and make it pointless and a waste of time or ... an extreme disadvantage.

You do realize that they can put a cap on the zoom, it isn't that hard to do.

In the sense that I am not a dev nor can I tell you what the future holds, okay. However, read the dev quotes - "100% first person" is pretty unambiguous. So, basically, no. We do know, at this point and if that changes... well they'd probably lose more people than they gained.

Thankyou all for your posts on the third person subject! I have been reading through and everyone has a good point, so i feel we can move on to a new topic! Clan tech... How should it be implemented into the game? And how much of it can be used without tipping the scales too heavily against inner sphere tech? I really enjoy having intelligent discussions about the pros and cons of different things that are going to be implemented into the game, as well as discussing issues with players wants vs game playability! this forum wasnt to dog on people who wanted to get 3rd person view put in, it was more for explaining why it could spoil gameplay and for the most part i think the general feeling is that 3rd would produce and unfair advantage for players as well as spoil the the old mech sim playability that truly is Mechwarrior! so plz get together with me and lets talk clan tech!!

Start a new thread then, this thread is about 3rd person view and why it won't be in the game. :-)

I have always played Mechwarrior games in the first person. Its the only view that gives me a sense of immersion. If you want to know where the enemy is check your sensors. Unless you are being jammed then it sucks to be you.

just learn to control your mech as your body, and to deal with it, that there just are no three point of view, as in real life, or just playing MechAssault, then simulations are grown just not for you ... what would be cool .. Camera-recording a Battlefield (as in BF2) where you can then download and view the battle from all directions

I think 3rd person could only work if they did third person only matches. You certainly couldn't have it mixed in with 1st in the same game.

Though personally, don't see the need for it. The 1st person Sim view is great fun.

They'd have to also find a way to translate the screen shake effects over among other things to balance it with 1st person.

In any case I'm 100% against 3rd person.

If they add replays or spectating, add a 3rd person cam there, definitely, since it would be nice to see more of the mech models.

People who want 3rd person wouldn't be any better with 3rd person. Instead of being lost, they'd just freeze in the midst of decision paralysis and try aiming at three things at once and die the same. 3rd person isn't going to fix situational awareness. You either have it or you don't.

As for the final answer to the issue: You have a third person POV already. It's called radar, and it is the most powerful 3rd person device on your screen. Look down, like you're checking your speedometer on your car or something.
