Ok, I'm writing in hopes to try and get people on the same page. I do not agree with nor disagree with third person views. However, I think that MechWarrior needs to reach out to the MW community as a whole. Yes forced cockpit view stays true to the sim, and eliminates other multiplayer playability issues. But at the same time there must be a way to bring a third person perspective for those who are more comfortable playing the game that way.Maybe creating a system that keeps track of your mechs blind spots so to speak, so we wouldnt have problems with cheap tricks such as seeing/detecting people over walls and around corners without having line of sight or a scout to spot. I'm not complaining, I just want to see the community as a whole happy and supporting MWO!
some things just need to be kept the way they are

You should be limited to cokcpit view ONLY.

None of this is crucial or most required, though. I can live without it, if I get something instead. And that something could be perfect hud or some graphics that are informative, functional and give me better closure with the idea of me sitting in a cockpit. If this is delivered, than I am 100% for FPV.

As I've posted elsewhere, I agree to a certain extent that it feels claustrophic and a bit limiting... but that's kind of the point..
Totally agree with this, it adds to the game, all 3rd person mode would serve to do is make it easier to check your rear for any scouts pew pew you from behind and extending your view arc. If you are getting shot from no where and its not missiles, its time to do a crazy Ivan.

Adding 3rd person view to the game may attract a different kind of player base, but to say it will attract more players are a flawed statement because by adding 3rd person you will see the 1st person view crowd leave the game.
This will likely leave them with the same amount of players, and considering the responses on the forums here about 3rd person, more than likely leave them with less players than before, not more.
I'm just glad the devs are sticking to their vision of the game and not cater to the "gimme gimme gimme" crowd.
There are plenty of mech games in development now that has 3rd person view, so why not leave this one game to those who want 1st person only.

Several polls have been conducted; two of them (with 489 responses and 330 responses, respectively, as of this post) are viewable here and here (in the case of the second, the results are viewable in this PDF).
In both cases, the majority indication (~52% for the first poll and ~69% for the second) is that 3rd-person POV is undesired, even as a potential option.
Moreover, MWO's Lead Designer (Paul Inouye) has explicitly stated that there will be no implementation of a 3rd-person POV.
Additionally, with regard to "more people [that] come over from other games and try this": it is not in any way, shape, or form incumbent on MWO to necessarily follow the same patterns as its predecessors - much less those of completely-unrelated GoW/SOCOM/CoD/MoH-style games - in all things (or, in the latter case, much of anything).
MechWarrior Online is not a remake of MechWarrior 1/2/3/4, or a follow-up to MechAssault, or an attempt to duplicate MechWarrior: Living Legends.
MechWarrior Online is not Hawken, or Armored Core, or Chromehounds, or Heavy Gear, or Steel Battalion.
MechWarrior Online is not "Quake/Halo/GoW/SOCOM/BF-XXXX/GRAW/CoD/MoH/etc with giant robots".
If one wants something that MechWarrior Online is not, then perhaps one might be better served by looking elsewhere and letting MechWarrior Online be MechWarrior Online, yes?

i think we don`t need a third person view because (and its already said) it is a Mech Simulation.
It is for the feeling to control a Battlemech as a Pilot and the game should not mutate to a trivial shooter.
Let this not happen to please!!!!

For those out there that are so hell bent on having third person in game please realize that there is no way to have it with out bring back pop tarting and making 1st person and LOS pointless. HOW EVER!! There is a way of having 3rd person in MWO with out any issue, the thing is that you won't be able to use it during a game, only after by watching the after action recording. So you play a round and then go watch the recorded game you were just in and watch it either in 1st person or 3rd, or even free fly. That's of cores if PGI decides to have MWO record games which you can then chose to save and watch later.
This is the only way 3rd person would ever make it into MWO, so for those that are not use to 1st person, then the only suggestions for you are either to learn how to use it, put up with it, or just not play.

Good idea. However if you want a permanent 3rd person view, try Hawken, I think that has 3rd person view from the videos.
