I'm just really excited to be able to play a mechwarrior game again. I used to enjoy being able to see my mech in the third person view, but I am willing to learn how to play it in first person.

There will be no Third Person views unless they <PGI> can find a legitimate way inside the game, to make it happen. I forget where I saw PGI say this, perhaps in one of the Ask the Devs things or an FAQ either way, for those of you who prefer to be outside the mech. Time to learn a new PoV. I like a third person camera myself but more for a quick look than anything else. GLHF!

This'll be how they implement Clan Enhanced Imaging. Granted to implement it truly accurately, after a few years your account would have to auto-delete

At the very least...can we look at implementing a 3rd person view during the spectator mode? With free roaming camera controls?

If chat is a problem, simply bar the player from chatting while in observer mode.

why people wants 3rd person?

you're the pilot of mech, not a mech.

As most people who loved the old MW PC games would agree, It was the immersion of sitting in a a cockpit that rises and falls with every ponderous step, and shudders with every hit that was what the Mechwarrior experience is all about.

Allowing 3rd person view would in terms of situational awareness, give players a major advantage over those using cockpit view. It would compromise cockpit play as a competitive option, effectively reducing it to a gimmick. Bear in mind also that It's this reduced situational awareness of the cockpit that helps give smaller, more maneuverable Mechs a fighting chance against the bigger Mech's.

Theres plenty of opportunity to gaze lovingly at your Mech in the Mechlab, failing that you could always go play Hawken instead.

you gain 3rd person view when you are rammed. Why I wonder? So this is a matter of unlocking it, for it is already in the game. With or without I shoot the same. I do not think it " dumbs " the game down. You still have to learn how to shoot either way. I say allow it. This is not MW4. As long as LOS is still were you have to move the mech out in the open to get a target and you are not allowed to gain LOS by staying behind a hill then it will be fine.

I have been talking to alot of old MW buddies out here and a good chunk dont want the game simply cause they cannot stay oriented properly without being outside of the mech

Oh? Let me fix that..

I don't see any problem with a view from above & behind your mech. With 2012 technology, I can easily get a camera the size of a postage stamp on the end of a 20 foot fiberglass pole. For the price of 100 rounds of MG Ammo, I can get a lot of these, and easily build a mechanism to automatically replace each one if/when it gets shot off. If I want to get fancy, I could put 4 cameras on the pole for a 360° panoramic view. Yes, my opponent could try to shoot off such a small target, but that's one less shot at me.

Thats so stupid and full of flaws Im not even gonna bother to break down how ******* stupid that sounds.

this game isnt for people that play third person shooters.

this game is a mech sim for battle tech fans.

leave the game alone, it is what it is, and nobody wants a third person shooter (that matters).

This ^ Perfectly stated. TY

I personally miss 3rd person from Mechwarrior 4 (although I don't miss the meta-game of MadCat MKII's jumpjetting and gauss sniping with it).
I just wish there was a non-cheating, cinematic way I could view my mech, because damnit they sure look beautiful in this game, and I'm narcisstic.

I'd like third person Spectator after death so we can better see the action and the Mechs we choose to watch. It wouldn't add much of an advantage to our team because we're not the pilot while dead and the things we could say in chat such as "look out he's behind you" will hardly make any difference.(We also don't get a zoom btw) Spectator mode itself is already a stretch from realism so it hardly matters. If it was fully realistic we'd be on the perspective of an ejection pod flying away or dead inside the Mech staring at the ground. So they may as well just let us do this so Spectator mode is more fun to watch. FP only is great as the pilot but as a Spectator I'd prefer TP so I can better watch the action.

Maybe lock the perspective behind the mech and down so you arent granted that over-verticle view of buildings and debris? It wouldnt be a super amiable 3rd person view, but atleast it'd satisfy the desire to get a full view of things if you wanted to play out of cockpit.

Easy : Bcause some of us are tactical players and no ego-shooters.

Personally i design arma2 warfare and love good strategic/tactical games with 3rd person view, although i am an above average mech pilot too.

On the other hand i dislike Ego-shooters very much, thats really nothing for intelligent people.

I like the idea of 3rd person spectator mode or even a free-roaming camera as a spectator, but the problem with that is even if you prevent alive players and dead players from seeing each others chat there's still the chance that they can communicate via TS/Vent/Skype.

It's much easier to prevent exploiting 3rd person usage to just not have it in the game.

Lol like i said at the top, I dont really care either way, i was just looking through forums and talking to people and the same topic keeps coming up! i just hope people keep diggin the game cuz i know i'm having a blast! just tired of seeing hate mail bout the third person people and the cockpit people.

Is the search function on the forums not working since you did not use it?
This has been posted and discussed ad infinitum, and I think that most people here are dead tired of seeing it brought up again and again and again, by people who clearly have no idea how to do a simple search.
Yet instead of searching for the subject you decided to create new post, why?

This would only work in pub games where you can actually prevent people from using the chat when in spectator mode.
But with so many players using a 3rd party voice server it would make it pointless, they would just circumvent the chat block with a voice server.

Now this is the kind of attitude I like to see.
Instead of asking the devs to accommodate you, you are willing to adapt to a new playstyle.
Hope you will enjoy the game just as much from a new viewpoint.

NO stop asking third person view will always give unfair advantages to those who use it, if you are too retarded to be able to use the cockpit then dont f-ing play cause you arent cut out for sims

3rd person view= Mechassault not Mechwarrior! Dont turn this sim game into an arcade game.....simply if you dont like playing 1st person in the cockpit this isnt the game for you!

does 3rd person shooter always means 'OMG A STRATEGIC GAME!!' to you?

and... early in development people said 'PLZ GIVE US 1ST PERSON VIEW FOR IMMERSION!!!'

when they do, some people are 'NOOO THIS IS NOT WHAT WE WANT!!!'

people are never and can't be satisfied eh?
