I can confirm it works. Im from europe.. used credit card and had to wait for about an hour. Then I got an confirmation mail.

From what they've said, the process to get Founders into the Beta still isn't completely automated, even with all of us being allowed in now. They apparently still need some time to process it manually, so it might take several hours depending on the time of day.
