[Felicitatem Parco]

I don't have enough lore-knowledge to answer this one: Is the JagerMech based on an UrbanMech chassis? I know the JagerMech is supposed to be a replacement of the Rifleman, and they have similar arm mechanisms, but they're not based on the same chassis. Just look:




Is this pure coincidence, or a functional relationship? Did someone use the UrbanMech cockpit for the JagerMech?

Edit: I know the JagerMEch has more "in common" with the Rifleman, but I am speaking from an engineering standpoint, not a battlefield-role standpoint.

Similar design aesthetic but no more than that. Perhaps all the catwalks at the time were full of standard humanoid mechs and the designers fancied going in a different direction.

I think it's more a case of them having defined niches and it being difficult to use them outside of those functions.

The JagerMech production was more in response to correcting the problems of the Rifleman so I would imagine that those two 'mechs have more in common than the UrbanMech.

The Jagermech is a support mech. It's not meant to rush in, but those AC2s have better range than anything during the Succession Wars. It's certainly vulnerable in close range, but it can seek crits from behind. It's got a role. The Urbie is a moble turret. I see it as operating with infantry and armor support to slow down advances. Yeah, it's not something you want to drive in an open area, but it's very cheap, and provides firepower.

I remember piloting the Jager Back in MPBT3025. It was a good Heavy Support mech that I used for a heavyer class mech than the BlackJack with AC2s.

It was great for plinking off armor of the opposing Team and with the LRMS combined you had a nice stream of constant fodder flying at the enemy for the Javs or Jenners to finnish the job that you started. It was prone to the same Ammo explosions of the BJ so I always hid that side of the mech behind a Thor

The later model that mounted AC5/Ultras was pretty damn good. Remember the AC5/Ultra could put out as much damage as a PPC. Though personally, There was a model in MechCommander 2 that mounted 4xAC5-Ultras. It was actually pretty deadly if you had a couple of them blazing away at an atlas or something. Though I don't know of any TT version that mounted four AC5s.

My favorite version of the JagerMech is the JM6-DG model which replaced the autocannons with Gauss Rifles, upgraded the Medium lasers to ER models, and has Double Heatsinks.

I call it the JagerMeister.

12 of these, in two ranked lines, front line kneeling, backed by the 2nd line, makes a formindable defensive position; especially when the attacking force is funneled into the line by support mechs. The Jäger has its place when used effectively.
