I like the idea of a base but what if there is no one there to defend it?

This! I mean, my lord, losing your base because you or some of your other friends would be annoying as heck. It'd be even more annoying if the attack happens at some hellish time of the night when everyone is asleep.

I don't think the Merc HQ they've mentioned in the past is something physical that can be found in matches...

If they sold planet bases and drop ships, me and my friends will seriously consider buying them.

Assuming the base is on a Planet you own, it seems reasonable that the owner would get notification of an incoming attack on that planet. Otherwise defending ANY planet, with or without a Base would be unfeasible.

There isn't enough info to make decisions on this topic yet IMO. What are the base upgrades? Weapons that help during the match? Advanced hangers(faster respawn if there is respawn)? Salvage teams (for increased the amount salvaged after the fight)? Repair bays (between matches it takes THAT mech X hours to repair the damage done but the bay cuts down the down time)? See what I mean?

I mean I may be WAY over estimating this game but if its serious and its going to be a 1 - 1 day ratio game with planet control being faction based and tactical control of X planet grants Y bonus why not have mechs keep damage between matches meaning if the planet your on is getting hammered hard you will die to attrition rather than any fault of your own.

I mean REALLY think how deep the rabbit hole can go with this game. The more I think about it the more excited I get. Now what I'm imaging may not even come close to the actual game (or the game may fall WAY short) vs what I have in my head but still there isn't enough info yet to make a informed decision on this topic. (don't get me wrong tho I don't mind talking about it either)

Agreed. I think its more just a "Home Base" where a merc unit is stationed when not on the offensive or conducting a raid. Now maybe certain locations might provided better support or bonuses, ie my merc unit has been based on Irain so parts are more abundant and etc. But I think that would be based off of your units Loyalty Points to your employer.

Wild speculation ahoy.

they can treat the base idea as a non-physical in game ui.

or maybe as a guild hall type in game.

A mechbay hanger if you will, allowing you to walk/scroll throught he guilds mechs and see loadout, mission status a whole host of other things.

however its hard to say what they will do.

Well taking a planets can use space attack and mech fighting as well. the problem is how do you get around that. i bet you can hot drop them in to battle. still base should have 3 thing that are good about them. one it a safe haven. two its where you can make your mech upgrades tons better. and three its can be used as an repair base as well but i think it should not be that cheap. Instead of have $1,525,000 to pay but 1m to pay so that are cheaper but not free. In this game there is nothing as a free mech. unless it's the starter mech.

I dindn't like the entire idea. I would prefer to see release first and available mechianics for factions/corps relations. Though I can consider it to be balanced later by adding some new features.

Mercinary Unit / sub unit of great house Purchases Base with C-bills earned from missions (LP determines on what kind of initial facility they can buy and in what space.)

Upgrading take about 1 day to complete and each upgrade only advances 1 perk (repairs are cheaper, each pilot gets additional slot in stable, repairs are done faster, more storage room for spare parts etc etc)

No single individual can own their own facility as they are expensive to run and you probably would have to be a noble and i dont think that is going to happen.

Seems we need to define what a base is;
  • Is it a base of operations that is fixed? A planet that one rotates back to on a regular basis for rest and repairs?
  • For Mercs and Lone Wolves; is it Solaris VII, a planet they have recently taken or perhaps the planet they call home on a social level?
  • Is it a semi-permanent structure that is dropped in after a planet is taken and used for repairs? With or without fixed defensive positions?
  • Is it a structure that can be dropped in during the fight which gives the owning side field repairs and long range artillery support?
From the options given it seems the poll is centered around Option 3 - Asking me if I want a semi-permanent structure that I haul around and setup for repairs at a minimum. Option 4 just seems to much to ask of the devs even at a much later date.

If I'm part of a House faction then the House owns tho' it made me responsible for it's upkeep, upgrades and safety. If it's part of a MercCorp then it's theirs. Everyone assigned to the unit has access to the repair facilities tho' one would assume c-bill cost to feed the Techs and procure replacement parts.

Upgrades: Everyone would throw a bit of spare change in every cycle. The next upgrade could be fixed or voted upon by the unit.

Length of time to upgrade: Would depend on the upgrade as some (better Mech facility to shorten repair time) would be just a matter of hiring on more Techs and getting them better tools. This would be a rather quick upgrade. Lengthier upgrades could be such things as those that harden it defensively as the point defense weapons would have to be ordered, approved (in the case of House units), shipped and installed.

How this could be implemented would be interesting for game balance purposes but does have some upside.

Hard to say. 24 hours to upgrade seems about right.
