However,
If their playing style doesn't suit piloting an Atlas around then their lifetime C-Bills boost will be wasted on a Chassis they don't want to drive.. Food for thought. You do have a good point though.

You can change which mech you chose after you bought the pack.
So, buy a pack, pick whichever mech looks the coolest to you, play around in the beta, and then change to the one you like best.

There are only preferences.
Speaking from basic loadouts.
Atlas is your brute force, slow, lumbering, good for first contact and bullet sponge, absorbing the main part of the fire while your team (hopefully) supports you, You definitely want to keep your front to the enemy with this because your rear armor is weak.
Catapult is your fire support mech, slow, heavy armor, and not one you wanna get in the middle of the fray with, your success relies on your teams competence and ability to spot targets for you. Any mech that moves into close range of your LRM boat is pretty much a death warrant.
Hunchback is your Jack of all trades, can attack, scout, and support, but it more often than not excels at none. Though with good piloting it can hold its own for a short while against most other mechs,
Jenner is of course your scout, good for hit and runs, skirmishes, and luring the enemy away from an area, (you'd be surprised how often an entire team is distracted by a scout, often unloading over half their missile and ballistic salvos at a scout, futilely i might add). Never stay and engage an enemy, ever, you will lose.

^ this, and it truly depends on which role you prefer, you may choose the atlas and later discover your love for scouting in light mechs
p.s. your banner is amazing.

If you like scouting, take a jenner, they are fast with a light armor and armorment.
If you like brawling go for an Atlas
If you are somewhere in between look at a hunchback or Catapult, they are between the two extremes. At that point it is a prefernce between Ballistic wepaons and Missile Weapons (remember you can customize you mech in the mechlab so don't look at it as long range and short range, since a catapult can mount SRMs and Hunchbacks can mount lighter caliber ACs)

After looking into it further, the Jenner looks to be more my playstyle. The catapult is still a solid pick for someone that doesn't know what role, or someone that knows that they exclusively don't want a small mech but don't know how big.
