Yeah, the wear and tear looks fantastic on that. Would that all mechs had a used look.

Agreed that the weathering looks fantastic, IH. Hope our 'Mechs look that good when the game is released. PGI should hire you and Hayden, and some of the other painters here as well. Hell, they can hire me too while they're at it lol :)

Thank you Gentlemen.

Adding one more and I think I am pretty much done with the Spiders for now...

Thanks L zard. Less feedback nowadays with Beta and vacations. So yours is that much appreciated. Take care!

That's so beautiful... one of the most good looking mechs I ever put my eyes on.

PS: shouldn't the Large Lasers have blue color?

Those mercenaries are too poor to afford a large laser. :D

I think this is one of the finest pieces you have done. I'm not a huge fan of the Spider or House Davion but this one really stands out to me for some reason. Well done.

Thx so much Max. I used a different technique for this one. And I hope that's what you mean but I am taking the liberty of sharing this technique below.

A layer was added as accent color on the borders to add some depth to the dark blue color of the 'Mech. After close review of the various miniature schemes used on the camospecs site for 2nd Ceti, I found that artist Gideon used an interesting technique on his Phoenix Hawk (though his dark blue had too much cyan tint in it for my personal taste, but then again Tiffany Blue is quite trendy these days so perhaps he is a visionary).

For colleagues who'd like to experiment with that technique, here's what I recommend:
1- Adding a layer for light reflection on sharp angles: use a 1 pixel brush with white to highlight those shape angles in those spots where you feel daylight should be reflected back to your eye. If it seems too bright, do not worry, you can then use layer opacity settings to dim the effect to desired degree (I used this technique for several repaints, including those 1st Robinsons and the Black Cobras.)
2- Adding a layer for sharp angle color feathering like Gideon's miniature paint style: use a feathered brush with a pale color (remember, you want to give that depth to the darker layer underneath) and then trace on those sharp angles again. Make sure that layer lies beneath the one stated above and dim its opacity until you achieve the desired effect.

Of course, both layers have to be set as clipping mask as stated in Hayden's template's post-it note.

Happy experimenting!

Going for House Imarra... but that Ivory effect is damn tricky. Inspiration from Psycho's great miniature work.

Got my Spider done, bare metal again.

Didn't like the Jumpjet effect, went with something I'm more familiar with.
