Are you pointing out St.Ivers can't even keep their cockpit windows clean? I mean, that would be pretty much a death-sentence.
And people who own such a rare and great mech would surely know how to keep it in working order. :)

Till they can't see no more, they'll kick the window off and let the breeze in.

I didn't know St.Ives had more than one Chuck Norris in their army. :P

I mean, Kai could stop a bullet with his bare hands, but what other soldier would be able to kick off ~18 tons of transparent armor?

Anyone have/know of a good tutorial for GIMP? I'm trying to use the templates but everyone seems to be using photoshop. It's kind of...a lot to take in at once and isn't obviously something that's friendly to the "hey, jump in and paint" mentality.

Not on this site... you could ask Dihm, since he was doing all of his Shieldwall repaints in it.

Ok, it's fairly simple. If you want to work with the templates made by our fellow forumers and know how to draw and change color in gimp, you'll be done in no time.

I tried it with the Cicada template and the steps were:

1st: Go to the painting layer (click on it in the bottom left bar). You'll see an orange screen and cockpit windows.

2nd: Select all of it with a square tool and hit delete on your keyboard.

3rd: Now click on the "Fuzzy select tool" [a magic stick/wand].

4th: Select the Primer layer and click anywhere on the Cicada

5th: If I didn't screw up, you should now have the whole Cicada selected .

6th: Now, above the layers, you have an opacity meter and a clickable arrow pointing down.

7th: Click it and select Burn (the other two above it also work, but let's keep it simple).

8th: Select he color you want, the opacity of the brush on the right side of the screen and do some nice repaints.

Hopefully, it works, isn't very confusing and helps you a bit.

If you're trying to do the Highlander, not everything is set up for you.

Generally:

You can select the whole mech in the masking layer.
For painting, you have to create new color layer yourself.
The dark bare is optional, so you should delete it if you intend to do more sharp coloured repaint.
Unless you want to make a black background image, you also have to delete that mask layer.
Things like cockpit and parts which you generally don't want to paint on are included in the selection, so either you avoid painting on them, or cut them out by any selection tool while holding Ctrl.

Can you do a Flea in this scheme?

For you Alf of course, would you like the 12th VR logo on it as well?

Just an attempt to get used to GIMP, not really happy with the overall 'mech (couldn't settle on a color/combination I wanted to do) but happy that I've at least attempted to do some recoloring. Now need to tackle some of the more advanced options/decals and stuff.

Could anyone make a Red Lancer's Highlander?
It's a prominent unit, so access to a mech like that would be possible and it's camo looks great. :P

If this is your first go at it you have nothing to not be happy with man you did an awesome job being a beginner with the tools you have at hand. As far as it being bright lol I love bright and flashy.

Since I "learned" how to use Gimp while trying to help Jack? idecided to make my own repaint.
It's nothing special and certainly worse than his first attempt, but still...

It is a battle-hardened Liao Dragon n°281 stolen by Periphery forces during one of their raids.
