Where this mech came from?? It looks like a 3D render.

BTW, it really looks like a Storm Trooper. ;)

I thought I would give a Christmas present to all my fellow FRR's out there

Planned 1st Tyr Repaint mechs

- Orion (Complete)
- Atlas
- Centurion ( 45% Complete )
- Awesome (Complete)

This is my first in a series of 1st Tyr Repaints - Thunderbolt Lance
( The Yellow/Gold and Black are marking I am using for this Lance )
EDIT : Finished the marking and touch-ups and is now complete ( Thanks to Ironhawk for the FRR and TYR emblems )

This one is based off of the ON2-M
Removing all 3 medium pulse lasers and downgrading the Gauss to an AC/5 and reducing the LRM15 to an LRM10, allows for the addition of 2 ER PPCs - one mounted in each arm. Turning this into a long-range power house of a sniper mech.

Really nice one, Bushmaster. :)

You could've tried to mod out 5 of those missile tubes (for instance, take out the top row and then 2 tubes to the left from the bottom and maybe lower the upper face of the launcher to fit with the new shape), though.

Aye, I am still in the process of removing the lower 5 tubes on the LRM and making little "caps" for the SRM or turning the SRM launcher into a DHS vent

EDIT : I couldn't get the LRM and the SRM to turn out the way I was hoping, so I just "capped" off the tubes and highlighted the active ones a bit.

1st Tyr - Thunderbolt Lance

Posted Image

This is almost your standard AWS-9M, though a few modification have been made. The 2 SRM-2 Streaks have been relocated to be better protected, each moved to the right and left torso. To fit the needs of the Thunderbolt Lance, the medium pulse laser and small pulse laser were removed and replaced with a TAG. It retains 2 of the ER PPC's located in the torsos and swaps out the arm mounted ER PPC with a ER Large Laser.

I used the template by Nacon to get another DHB colored Mech done (after a long time).
I'm still making way too many layers and I'm not sure about multiply, color and other modes, because I prefere linked layers.
I will try to tweak it a bit with IronHawks template, maybe I can figure out where the wall is in front of me. :D

This Orion in bright daylight is piloted by a Mechwarrior in Battalion 02, Company 01.

Trying around with the HDR-Base-Low layer and lower opacity of the shadows:

Happy New Years to all you guys and gals in this thread bringing lurkers, like myself, the best art this side of the InnerSphere. Keep it locked, keep it loaded, and keep the great repaints coming! I've been following this thread closely since it's inception, and it's come of heck of a long way, and it's got some real talent behind it. Thanks for a year full of great art!

It all depends of how the clans will be handled.

(I'm at the same time worried and thrilled)

I may be in the minority (and then again, I may not) but frankly, it wouldn't bother me a bit if the clans never appeared.

That said, there is no doubt that they will, but game developers are never able to stick to their timetables, so we will probably slide off the 1:1 sometime soon, as I suspect the clans won't appear until community warfare is up and running in more than just an initial test version. Because CW is what will determine the long term fun factor/success of MWO, not whether people have to earn honor points or some crap other than just mindbending high prices to have clan mechs/tech.

Clan mechs are hideously ugly, but Alex Iglesias works wonders (ie making the Stalker, top 5 all time stupid and ugly mech design, viable looking) so I bet he can do away with the spindly arms and legs and the greenhouse cockpits, while working his magic.

Anyway, still looks worth being optimistic for to me. ;)

There is a way to "balance" clan technology: simply make the battles (and CW) Clan vs Clan and IS vs IS only. Never mixed.

Later, they could add PvE modes, like Invading Clans (players with IS mechs defending bases against waves of AI controlled clan mechs) and Operation Revival (players with Clan mechs pushing through waves of AI controlled IS mechs).

Or the obvious and oft repeated 8v5 or 12vs10 IS vs Clan battles. You cannot balance *the mechs* but you can absolutely balance the *games* both factions interact with. The easiest method simply giving the IS a numerical advantage.

Of course that ignores how most of the current maps can render the range bonus of clan tech worthless leaving them with a straight more damage for more heat balance. Plus, there are harsh limits in what you can do with a true omnimech, customization wise. Set pod space with no armor or engine tweaks allowed, plus fixed equipment means you only have a fixed amount of tonnage to play with regardless of how you want to modify the mech.

For example, the Hellbringer has abnormally high pod room for its tonnage at 29.5 tons, but tissue paper armor that cannot be improved. Cannot even mount two CGauss with sufficient ammunition to go with it since you cannot downgrade the engine for a few more tons. IIRC the Timberwolf only has 26 tons of pod space to play with, with no way to increase the cap. By comparison, my Cataphract uses 39 tons of combined weapons and ammo. If it used nothing but Clan weapons, it would still be using 33 tons in weapons and ammo.
