When I repainted the slightly sloppy edged Timber Wolf template, I compensated for it a bit with a "glowing edges" command, but made it black with normal setting instead of lighten. Cranking down the width of the now darker spot let me make a soft dark line on the edges of the actual cutout itself, on areas that were slightly brighter, acting to normalize it a bit. Maybe that can work?

photshop or gimp?

trying to figure out how to eliminate that....I am thinking the transition to gimp has some slop? Maybe if I fuzzy select the image then increase 1 pixel? Or is there a better way?

Better way? - Photoshop.

Also... on my computer, and on the Photobucket it looks crisper.... here it looks lightly blurred. Wonder why? :( Any advice on "tuning" the colors?

Use several layers and test the different merging options. Soft Light, Overlay, Multiply and Color are my favorite.

now I remember why I didn't want to spend all that money on PS.... because none of that made ANY sense, lol. That is not in a language a pen and pencil guy remotely understands.

You are already doing some advanced stuff.
I just recommend trying to make the image sharper and tune the colors.

Edit: there is also a light outline in the mech, which should the the contrary (dark).

Well, still don't understand the layering part, but is the outline better now?

It is better. The red color is better in this repaint (try it with a little desaturation).

BTW, did you use Gimp? Because it looks like the re-sizing made the mech a little bit blurry.

PS: I will tell you my trade's secret. Put a desaturated replica of the mech in a layer behind the colored one. Now use the erase tool in about 50% opacity and with the shape of a spray. Click on the edges of the mech to make a grungy effect to the paint.

Did you click on the photobucket link? Seems like it gets blurry when I post it on here. On my computer it looks cleaner. When you say desaturated, how much? I am guessing not B&W?

gonna try an experiment...... I had been uploading them as JPEGs because I had been having packet size issues for a bit....gonna try uploading the one as a PNG, and see if it's less blurry.........

Not sure if it's just a perceptual bias, but the first one definitely looks crisper to me.

I had the same problem with my images becoming blurry. For some reason the quality is not kept when saving it as a jpeg. So I save them as png's. Also, photobucket scales down the quality as well. I am using imgur to host my images.

Here is an Awesome from our C4 Unit with a Hellfire Lance paint scheme.
