It's like it was explained in the Penny Arcade episode regarding OST from games, keep it a recognizable tune and then expand it from there. I advise a military march/tech feel for identity with alot of percussion.

For example this tune is ALWAYS ON MY MIND more then the tune from halo 2 in fact, the work from Chris is just amazing, i still cant believe he didnt win the VGA's but thats another topic.

When you have an awesome community behind a game, you will most certainly end up with music like these:

Well, since we are talking about big, bulky and heavy mechs i think that perhaps it should have an underlying beat of industry like big and heavy rail iron. I think it would mesh very well with the techno and orchestral stuff

I think it would mesh very well with the techno and orchestral stuff

mesh very well with the techno and

well with the techno

techno

Traditionally MechWarrior's previous soundtracks have leaned towards rock/metal. But I can see how techno might have a few things to bring to the table. Might have a good influence if used in moderation.

Edit: If this is the first time you've heard of 331Erock, I STRONGLY suggest subscribing to him and listening to his skyrim cover.

Whilst I'm a fan of Gregory Alper & Jeehun Hwang's MechWarrior2 soundtrack, I would prefer something that wasn't heavily influenced by what has come before in the BattleTech universe. Perhaps you could look to composers like Zack Hemsey for inspiration. His Mind Heist was used for the Inception trailer and clearly inspires Hans Zimmer's soundrack.

Please go easy on the choirs. They are used way too much these days. The same pretty much goes for the heavy metal and heavy guitar music. It has been done so much for MechWarrior it is now cliche. Speaking of cliche, Gustav Holst's Mars, the Bringer of War is the yardstick for mechanised warfare themes.

Sneaky B, That Les Friction track is incredible.

Impressive, really.
I do hope you can do this, and even more than that, i hope developers honour you by using some of your compositions in this game.

And my suggestion? action loaded instrumental, with guitar shred. not power metal, but more of a heavy('ish) metal style.
I know you cant please everyone, so why not make couple of tracks?
Something for everyone and all that.

I will be keeping my ears on this thread lad.

Edit: as someone said earlier, industrial metal theme might work as well.

Here's my idea of what the theme song should be.

In a word Epic. Not some thirty second blitz of guitar riffs drums and half baked dub step but a full length song. When I think of MWO I can see the song starting low and slow, the volume slowly building. (A good example of this would be) "Arrival Earth" from the original Transformers movie.

laters.

nothing beats the classic Command and conquer Red alert music:

0.32 seconds is it where it really kicks in, and should end 3:42

Some amazing work you've done - and they all sound *great* Chad. The only thing I could think of for references is more a feel than a tune for this moment (got to leave for work very shortly).

Basically, have some of it gritty but not necessarily heavy - if you've ever played Final Fantasy VII (don't hate, hear me out), the music in the town that Aerith's house is on the outskirts of has an example. This video has it: starting at 4:25.

After that, something that builds up to be tense and driving - this is the best example I can think of:
