A better place to start would be over at www.battletech.com

You know, the OFFICIAL Battletech portal? Anything you want to know can be found there.

I thought there was a newbie thread or area. It is mostly for MWO though. As for book titles Stockpole books are great for the politics, I liked the Grey Death books for the world of mercenaries.

It's battletech. It doesn't make sense.

Space Nazis are obviously Clans (they are better than you in all ways - better pilots, better weapons, better tech), The space telecom is Comstar. I presume this means that Comstar fought of the CLans until the other big interstellar nation could catch up.

I am not sure if the 350 year robot is refering to a different franchise or the superior Star League tech. I suspect the former.

the 350 year skull faced robot is refering to the atlas. Since it was tech that wasn't fully lost and has better armor and weapon loadouts than a lot of the newer tech.

The only thing missing is the mass sodukos the space samurai use when they commit SHAMEFUR DISPRAYS. It gets so bad sometimes, they have to ban swords.

350 year old tech is reference to the atlas, which is always a functional mech, compared to the 40 million dollar gladiator mechs on Solaris, or some of the more terrible clan mechs. For reasons we will never know, an atlas is 9 million, while a clan light can be as much as 25 million.

They're like the 40k black library books. Some are awful, others are okay.

Some are definitely better than others but there's none that were so bad I couldn't finish. Talking about the old "Battletech" ones. The new "Mechwarrior" ones didn't interest me.
