They have stated in a podcast, non NGNG three moon or something. That the Clans will be playable and that they will be rewarded for using Clan Honor, Zellbrigen.

Well, that would explain it--I can't stand podcasts, so I don't listen to them.

Carry on, then.

I like it......

+1

But its a good question of how someone with a Blood Name "Dies". Once all of the name are all full, a blood named warrior would need to die for anyone else to get one, and as far as I know thee is no guidelines around if a character can actually die in MWO.

Either way it needs to be earned from scratch.

Same for positions like Star Captain and etc. Trials of Position should be implemented.

All this opinion coming from a possible spheroid :-) I am surprised I have not been challenged to a circle of equals. Then again....I am a spheroid and deemed not worthy of one....(hides)

Death could be inactivity. say 2 months of inactivity and your held bloodname is up for a Trial of Bloodright. Best option I can see so we do not have 500 Pryde or Tseng kicking around

Maybe they don't assign bloodnames. Maybe if you attain a bloodname through a trial, they just add an indicator after your Callsign like:

CoffiNali - Bloodnamed
Adam Baines - Blood Named

Because they are to be special, t hey are very hard to earn and show the elite member of the Clan. VERY rarely can one even attain Star Colonel without a Bloodname, and the ones who are Star Colonel with no bloodname have often been through one or two tries. You do not lose much honor in not winning the bloodname. Some would just lose pride.

Should be a challenge, and reflect something. Not just some tag for beating a quest.

Thier is a problem that comes in if you limit the number of bloodnames.

Imagine there are 400 bloodnames available. In the first few months (after the clans become playable) all 400 are taken. So now any new players that missed the introduction of the clans have ~0% chance of earning a bloodname no matter how good they are. Since players don't die and I imagine most of the bloodnamed would log in at least long enough to hold there title (once a month or what not). No bloodnames would be available.

How do those in the 25 per bloodname crowd think to fix this problem.

Well firstly that is the lore. There are only 25 holders of a single Bloodname however since on average there will be 40 Bloodnames per Clan that is 40x25 = 1000 Bloodnames available per Clan. I think we will be fine. :)

Secondly as CoffiNail suggested since nobody actually dies, perhaps death can be associated with inactivity.

So which podcast cast did "They" say we would be able to play as Clans? I have listened to most of the Podcasts about this game and I have not heard that, it does not seem like anyone else has, we have not heard anyone from the dev team come out and say that the clans will be a playable faction, at any point. I know everyone wants to play clan, becuase thier tech is better, thier mechs look cooler, but not a single dev member has even mentioned that the clans will be a playable faction in this game.

So far the only playable factions are the major inner sphere houses, and so far all the useable mechs have all been inner sphere mechs, every game needs to have a protagonist and a antagonist, and in the books, the Clans were the Antagonists, they are going to be the "BAD GUYS" of this game. So find me link that says we will be able to play as clans, with clan tech. article, podcast.... becuase the best we got is "some podcast" were "they said". Give me the podcast where "they" being people who are working on the game say you will be able to play as the clans, but so far, there is not one ounce of support to that. There is not a line anywhere on this offical website that says the clans will be a playable faction AT ALL.

Might be a reason for that, maybe becuase they don't want everyone playing clan for the tech advantage, maybe they want people to experince the story of the world, maybe they want an Inner Sphere (the players) Vs. The Clans (The Devs/Story team) setting.

Not the NGNG podcasts, it was three

http://mwomercs.com/...ee-moves-ahead/

THIS is a podcast with Bryan and Randall Bills. TYVM

Not only this but to play Clan and they also talked about claiming targets and getting more EXP for taking out a target by yourself, like Zellbrigen.

How will experience be calculated? In such a way that clans can look at battle credentials before a blood trial? Also MWO developers would have to implement bloodnames in such a way that they couldn't be added by the average whelp without a trial [i.e. altering a username or having a pre-existing callsign with an unearned name].

I agree with limiting bloodnames as close to feasible, but developers might have to lock out trials if the game becomes too imbalanced [everyone wants to be a clanner, IS numbers dwindling]

i know i shouldn't be commenting here as i am no clanner... but i always choose a name within a name (titleception) Sovietkoshka means soviet cat wich also means red cat, commie cat ect. i also use this as my callsign. (i am both nimble as a cat, and dispence my deth rays bullets equaly among both friend and foe XD)

*echem* anywho back to serious it would be good to have an account name (unchangeable) and a screen name (callsign) which is changeable..
to make a friend you add their current name, which gives you their account name as AKA or vice versa

thus i would be SovietKoshka as my account name, once added it would say SovietKoshka AKA SteveMclaserface

In the time frame of launch for the game, roughly 682 bloodnames exist between the Clans. And with 25 holders per name, there is a result of 17,050 available Bloodnames at any given time. I do not believe a shortage will be a problem.

It will be a lot less than that because there will be only four initial Clans then an additional three, but you are right there should not be a problem of a lack of Bloodnames. Also check my post on the previous page.

A bit of what Jaroth said a post above me, being there only so many invading clans ergo there is only so many bloodnames to obtain, there's a bigger issue then what you think.

How is there not going to be an issue of lack of bloodnames...when there's already over 50k registered users on this forum. How is a scant number of bloodnames supposed to work if only 25 people are allowed a bloodname. Using the lore to limit bloodnames is going to be a huuge mistake in MW:O, I know I'd be pissed as hell if I wanted a bloodname on my Clanner but someone told me I was SOL because I'm number 8,564 in line or something.

Yea...there's going to be a shortage of spots if you want to limit the number of obtainable bloodname spots. This would be a terrible move for PGI for a multitude of reasons, and while in lore they're not as prevalent, in MW:O it's going to be important if you can go for the bloodname you want, regardless of population size. So yea, I'd expect to see a bunch of Kerensky's running around in Clan Wolf, for example, instead of a handful of people holding the bloodname and lording it over everyone else.

There is the changing lore behind any absorbed bloodnames, annihilated bloodnames, or of course the non clan exclusive bloodnames such as my own of Fischer. Overwhelming to track.

Even in the novels, clans call signs are given per mission. Typically that is how the military of today operates.

For MWO, I feel anyway works. I included my bloodname for now as there is no way to add, change, or delete pilotnames.

Do bloodnames mean anything to you? Or are they just a cool moniker to show you are really Clanny?

If it DOES actually mean something to you, then some of us have earned bloodnames, in Trials, in our various Clans in other MechWarrior games. It means something to me, I am certainly not going to give it up and re-prove myself. Although you can certainly challenge my right to it for fun. What is a bloodname? Do you "believe" it or is it a cool game trinket? I'm not talking about crazy LARPing in your bedroom, but for some of us, this badge of Honor has already been bought through a series of rigorous trials. If it is just something you tack on to the end of your name to roleplay, I totally get that. However, I will tell you that any bloodname seeking I do in MWO will be a farce of something that has meant something to me, with actual emotional attachments. I doubt I'm alone in that.

Edit: I just read another post in here with a warrior who admits that he should retrial, having not played since Mechwarrior 3... Maybe You are right. Perhaps the MWO new blood will be quicker, faster, and smarter than I and deserve the name more than me, to have the next generations be of their evolved genes. Perhaps. But regardless, it HAS been a long a time. Fair enough. My Name does mean something to me, but that does not mean that me owning it is what is best for the Clans today. I will you see on the field, and we can decide then.

I don't think you can base what someone has earned in MW:O on previous games. I would say being a new game the slate is clean.

You guys worry about the silliest of things. Things you have no hope of controlling.

If I decide to start a Mercorp called Clan Jade Wolf and in it I enforce as much Clan Lore as I can including Bloodnames as ranks or rewards, I think the only ones who will have a problem with it is other players. MS or PGI will not care one way or the other so long as my credit card number on file is good.

Quaff?
