Well my question is in regards to the 7th. Now that all the founders are in, do you think they will move the open beta up to the 7th so that non founders can get in or will that still take place a few weeks later? I'd like to by a founders pack, but my computer is on the edge as far as specs go. Plus I've heard of some people having troubles with their ATI 5870. I dont think it may be as much of a problem because I have two. Although there was some speculation that it may be a driver issue. If that is the case I may still be in trouble.

Anyways, I'm just wondering if anyone knows the status of the open beta. The veterans pack seems like a fairly good deal just because I'd buy this game if it cost money and most new games cost more than $30. However, because it is free to play it just doesn't make sense to drop money if my computer can't even handle it. I'm just curious how much longer I will have to wait.

There have been no recent announcements regarding open beta. The only standing announcement is PGI hopes to have open beta start "Summer 2012". Speculation is that it could be any time before the end of September, assuming the date isn't moved back.

I suppose I could always buy and that way I'd have the benefits of it. I'm planning on doing some upgrades on the computer anyways. Plus I'd have time to test it out and it might push forward the upgrade process.

As far as I am aware, the only significance to August 7th now is that founders will get their founder mechs to use. It will still be closed Beta at hat time, I have seen dev posts confirming that anyway.

They have recently mentioned that open beta looks like it will be at the end of summer which is Sept 22 I believe.

Open Beta is not going to be moved up .. but the found pack sales will be comming to an end soon . so id hurry up and get one!!!

I read somewhere that everyone with a Founders Pack will loose little to nothing in the transition from Open Beta too Full release .

Im not sure if its true . but in my opinion thats well worth the Veteran package at the very least .

Anyone else see that anywhere??

Well if that is the case that is a pretty solid perk. If you purchase an elite pack do you have to pick the founders mech when you buy or can you pick it at a later date?

I was under the impression that no one would lose anything in the transition between open beta and full release. Open Beta is release as far as i am concerned for this game, it lets us start playing for real with the caveat that the game isn't quite actually finished yet.

You have to make a choice initially, but you can change it whenever you want up until the end of the founder's sale.

Hmm this is good to know. I figured if i do buy id start with veteran and upgrade to elite, but was nervous about committing to one at the start. I envision myself as a fire support player such as the catapult. But then I saw the atlas, jenner, and centurion videos. I could see myself enjoying playing as any of those mech's battlefield roles. It makes sense that you may as well chose a founders mech that will get high use to maximize the c-bill bonus

You pick it right away .. but you can change it at anytime .. every day I pick the Atlas .. then the Catapult .. then the Atlas again .

it even lets you upgrade to Legendary at anytime for the additional $60

I agree with that semi ... Open Beta kinda is a full release but just as they did in WoT .. they plan on a Full server wipe for everyone when they decide to no longer call it Open Beta and go Full release .. then at that point all Non Founders will loose there account stats and earnings.

that happened to me in WoT .. i played Closed .. open beta and had a beautiful account .. then they wiped it and I stopped playing for like 5 months .. but I've been back at it now for about 6 months.
So it just goes to show that even tho wiping the accounts will **** some people off .. if we really like the game we all come crawling back .

I, personally, have never played a Beta that didn't have a wipe before launch. Not saying that there is a game out there that hasn't done a wipe prior to launch...but even as a founder, a Beta that carries over to launch just doesn't feel 'right'.

I hope they wipe before launch, but that's me.

I expect Open beta in about a month. MAYBE a bit earlier than originally intended since the Founders all got in early (good sign that things are moving along well!) but still won't be open beta for a few weeks at least (September-ish)

Hmm right now it just comes down to how bad do I want to see if it will work with my setup. I was unaware that they were planning on wiping at the end of the open beta. I figured once it went open everything carried over. It probably would be a bit unfair to let the founders stuff carry over and everyone else starts all over.

My understanding is that Founders were due to get early access to the game 7th August as part of the package, but this has been bumped to now since all founders should have access to the beta.. ..anything you buy in founders will not apply during the closed beta, but should from the open beta onwards.

The perk here is that founders get to play CLOSED beta and test out the game and help develop it as well as play the OPEN beta without getting stat wiped (from open beta to official release) and also having the advantage of earning more C-BILLs and experience prior to the official opening. WB

I just think they should not have used the words 'early access' at all when they are only in the the beta testing closed or not. How can you have early access to 'open beta'... its still beta. The traditional progression for games has been, Closed Beta > Open Beta > Early Access > Game Launch. I did not read much on the forums to know that it was still in closed beta, when I clicked on the Founders page link and seen early access and I decided why not, thinking the game was going to launch sometime next week. Now I find out its just another testing phase. I am not mad that I plopped down $60, so I bought my way into closed beta, no big deal. Its just a bit confusing to call it 'early access' when its not that phase. Sure its earlier access to all the founders perks, which could (most likely) get reset before the games real launch, which is fine by me.

Depending where you live, summer stops differently. Like here in sweden, Summer is over now ;-p
