Its always funny to see peoples reactions when they find out after what real life stuff the mechs, units and other BT things were named.
Or when they first dig into the lore and find all the pop culture references in there, especially in the unit names and their backstories. :)

Yeah, I remember when I was playing TT and seeing the Jenner, I was figuring it was a Mech for sport matches.

I don't know about the Jenner..

But the Owens is actually named after an old Cavalry song "Gary Owens". It refers to the mech's similar role to light cavalry, scouting and harrying. It was designed when more cooperation with the Fedcom against the Clans (And Prince Victor's demonstrated acceptance of Combine Culture, not to mention Omi Kurita) was the norm of the day, thus the more Western themed name.

"As he heard the last of her mortal breaths he whispered to her he would never forget her."

"On show day he was more excited than he thought possible. Jennifer would be so proud"

Designed in 2784, the fact was the Jenner was the sole property of Dr. Simon. It was known to all who worked with to be his most extensive source of pride, however this honor would later be tainted by the 'Mech's prominent role in the Kentares Massacre.

Jennifer would live on... :)

Oh
Oh yeah? I can make up history about a Mech too!

Designed in 2945, the fact was the Mad Cat was first developed by House Liao. The strong Chinese influence was not only evident in the poor initial designs (which were made out of re-inforced rice paper) but the very name of the chassis was an homage to all the cats that are eaten every year. The over consumption of the delicious feline lead to an outbreak of the same strain of pathogen that cause Mad Cow disease, thus the name Mad Cat.

...
..
.
How'm I doing so far?

Apology. Didn't know it would offend.

Jennifer defers the name....

bows away :)

I over reacted, my bad. Give us weak souls a break nexy time please?

Trying to be original is tough but if running it by the brass first is required, no worries.

Mhm, I contest that. I think it originated from yet another athlete of old, a sprinter actually, Jesse Owens.

Hey, it isn't your fault that at first glance, it really -does- look like the ******* child of a Marauder and a Catapult, and thus, the IS targetting couldn't get a proper read on it...

I love the Jenner - except I always dropped the missiles to add more lasers and armor, in the boardgame and in video games. :-D
