Since actual 3D games are most likely centuries away. Would you be willing to play BT using a system simular to this Surfacescapes system? This video is 2 years old.

Do not look at the video and think I am asking about a BT MMO exactly like the DnD version above. Everything would be converted to BTs style of play. Like on the TT.

I would prefer an augmented reality approach that keeps the miniatures and terrain but does away with the (physical) record sheets and the bookkeeping, e.g. you'd look at a mech and see all the needed info above it, adjusted automatically by the damage a unit takes e.t.c.

How about allowing a tablet like devise that would be used with the roll out screen. The tablet will have your Mechs Record sheet, and your Character sheet if your playing Mechwarrior?

This would allow multiple players to stand around a small table and not fight over table space. With internet access you can play against friend that have moved away.

Yes because it makes setting up a game a fairly easy task.

Though there is nothing that will ever be able to replace Tins that you paintet yourselfe with all your imagination and love to this System.

If you could use actual miniatures on this, then heck yeah I'd use it!

Even if you couldn't it'd still be fun, especially for other games.

It is a good concept but it takes much of the elements that makes it a table top game like dice and a physical map etc

Again it's a good concept but I would never use something like that personally because I prefer to have the paper and the card to touch and hold.
Same reason why I won't buy e-books

That's what I really want.
I already bring an android tablet to my games filled with all my rulebooks and TRO in case they are needed (even our GM has gone that route rather than lugging his rulebooks, though all he has is a Nook). I would very much like to be able to do the recordsheets thing on there too.

that said, I would love something that works with real maps and miniatures, but since my group uses hex terrain, I think it would be better if it were some sort of overhead projector rather than a screen table (which could also be used to project hexes on regular terrain) The biggest uses I actually see for it, is being able to project LOS, weapon ranges and, maximum movement distances for any given mech on the table to speed up moving and firing since people would be able to stop counting hexes and checking the table with laser levels.

I agree, using digital apps to help with book keeping is fine but this is just something about rolling actual dice and moving around Miniatures you have assembled and painted your self that digital gaming can never replace.

DnD used what is shown. A SurfaceScape BT game would be all Hexes.
