So now that games have developed quite a bit since the last MW installment, I would love to see the Hatchetman in a mechwarrior game. I have always thought it was an awesome and unique mech, and it was even the mech used in the old TV show. I figure that they never included it in the games due to it being pretty much the only mech with a melee weapon, but clearly it could be implemented well now.

From the FAQ:
So the Hatchetman and other melee focused mechs probably won't be making an appearance, at least for now.

Q. Will MechWarrior® Online™ have Mech melee combat?
A. At this point in time we are not looking at melee combat. We may revisit melee combat if we can design something that is fun and does not compromise the overall gameplay experience.

****. I was really hoping. Would have been really awesome considering that urban combat was going to be prevalent.

honestly mech melee combat wouldn't be all that different from melee combat in any other FPS computer game that uses it. just list punch/kick/hatchet/whatever as a weapon option. place reticle on the target, pull triger. activates a pre-set attack movement.
this is how mechs are supposed to do it in universe too.

I doubt we'll ever see melee in the game due to difficulty in animating it; if it's poorly animated it'll look like rock-em-sock-em robots, and break the sense of immersion.
That being said, I still watch to punch the **** out of Mad Cats in an Atlas.

I doubt that would be the reason. I would suspect that it just makes things even harder to balance if you have mechs that can slam you with an axe in the back. I would imagine that the Hatchetman's axe would leave quite the impression.

I don’t think it will be in at launch just because they have to worry about balancing the ranged classes and such, they want to make sur the get what 90% of mech. use before working about close combat but I think it might be in one of the fallowing patches or expansions.

Honestly I do hope that they integrate melee into the game.

I would love to see it in an expansion. Some mechs, like my namesake Charger were built for melee combat and excelled at it.

I've always loved the Hatchetman and its larget sibling, the Axeman. It's a shame they're not considering implementing melee combat as of now, but I wouldn't rule it out entirely as it could be a game changer in the tabletop version.
I do see the point in getting the animations right and the difficulty behind it.
