Per the lore, the pilot displays are supposed to be a 360 degree view around their 'Mech. I know it would be confusing to integrate that imagery, but can we at least have a rear view mirror? I am also bummed that there are no rear facing weapons.....

Sorry if this has been posted before.

Great idea cdlord.
In the heat of battle this could be useful.

I dunno about a mirror, LoL... but a display/screen, definitely. If the mech's in the game are going to be designed for pilots to be within an enclosed cockpit (or obstructed rear view), in this day/age of the mechs, there would be some sort of rear display (heck, we already have such technology in many vehicles today in real life). In a perfect setup, those with dual monitors would be able to put the rear view display/screen on their 2nd monitor. However, for everyone's benefit, the screen could just be inside the cockpit (maybe viewable through "free look" inside the cockpit?).

i'm totaly for the rear view display. it's and awsome tool to see what's behind you when your backing up or for mech's with 360 torso so they can look where they are running. I know my raven in mech 4 doubled his survival rate be using that camera cause i could aim my front armored side to the chasing mechs and even make some pop shots as i ran away. you could keep it FPS style when you look back by like sticking the view in the back center of the mech aiming back so if you backed up to a wall you would get a face full of wall no matter what view you used

If memory serves MW3 just had a rear view toggle button and the screen switched views. But for immersion purposes, Tribunes idea is probably best.

Functional, realistic, and would make a great feature.

I agree with this suggestion 100%, seems like a standard feature like zoom.

This has been posted before.

The only problem I can see with it is that contacts, even radar, are based of line of sight.
having a rear view camera could break this, as any contacts you see on the camera would be, therefore, in your line of sight. which could well screw with balancing the likes of scout mechs and even mediums who might need the advantage of running behind you unseen to either spot you for the team or attack you. a camera would deny this advantage.
Amoungst all the other issues.

This "Radar" is a bad Joke , useless and a break with all MW Games ...MW is not a FPS, and a rearview and 360° Radar with 3 Radarranges ,and Aktive/reaktive Mode integrated in the older MW4 with no Problems for Scouts and Teamplay ,and the Mechs in MW4 a very faster to turn and twist as MWO Mechs

Ok...Well, that's all well and good, though a potential NDA break there...But how does the "radar being crap" answer my issues with a rear view camera? what you say could well be true, but it is what it is, and as it stands,a rear view camera would potentially mess it up/create confusion.

The problem is that it would create problems for scouts. If the radar works 360 deg and at range, then the usefullness of scouts spotting targets becomes less. the need for team mates watching your back would become less.

And just becasue it is different from previous MW games doesn't make it bad or wrong; the whole set up is largely different and requires different rules and different ideas.

The Scouts can adversary but as a mockery, they have to not stand directly behind the 10m opponents but 300 m? and to move into the battle, they have to go to their considerable speed and team play, there is an atlas for 2-3 to him no chance Lights race end, whether with or without 360 ° radar that worked without problems in all MW games with 360 ° radar

There has been rear fire in every mechwarrior game that Im aware of.

In fact the Atlas K's center torso medium lasers are supposed to be rear firing. (think thats the one)

It is required as far as Im concerned. Real radar as well. Blocking radar is what the Guardian ECM is for.

Radar is supposed to be 360 degrees, BUT it can still be LoS (meaning the mech can have 360 view, blocked by hills etc). Per the lore, the HUD is supposed to be a 360 degree view crammed into a 160 degree arc around the pilot. We obviously cannot do this (at least not well), so a limited rear view is not game breaking (in fact, it can be quite frustrating :P)

Yeah, you see the problem is that you are talking about what is SUPPOSED, what you WANT to be, and I am trying to talk about what IS.

As a rule, I would agree with you. RADAR could well be 360 (though not all RADAR is). Rear view cameras would probably exist. Though I will say again, just becasue it was in a previous game does not necessarily mean it's relevant to this iteration of the franchise. The path they have taken is very different to previous games.

But.

The game developers have made choices to balance the game, create challenges and encourage team play. These will sometimes differ from the TT and the other games.

And whilst you may not understand or agree with thier choices, they are the ones that have been made. As a consequence, these choices may well restrict other aspects like rear view cameras. Can you not see that baseing something primarily off LoS and then adding a rear veiw camera could create certain...contradictions? much like the rear facing weapons which I think they also nixed somewhere.

I for one, see what they are trying to do and agree with them. I am not so arrogant to assume I know better. I am smart enough, however, to look at what they are doing, understand, and give them the benefit of the doubt that they know what they are doing because they are professional game designers and I am but a humble model maker.

However considering the technology that is supposed to be implemented in the mechs we pilot, a rear facing camera is only logical. Even if it was in a non-adjustable small display in a corner.

Because if I can go and buy a backup camera on amazon for $16.99 with Prime shipping for my car. Then I should have one in my 25-100 ton battlemech with lasers and particle projection cannons and fusion engine.

Rear-view monitors would be great. I'd even be willing to burn a few mil c-bills to have it be PIP like the adv. zoom.

PIP and rear displays are probably an engine limitation thing. This is why the PIP zoom just increases pixel size, so the view isn't rendered again (processor intensive). If it was implemented, it would increase the minimum system specs more.

My guess is the only way this could be implemented is to do have a whole screen swap to rear view. It could look "videoish" like the FLIR and NV modes look, to let you know you're looking at a video feed.
