Would you buy any of the Mechwarrior games if they got released on GOG (Good Old Games)? I heard 3 is the best, but it's hard to get working on modern PCs, and I know GOG has been able to pull it off with several titles. Problem is I also heard the source code is lost and that may be what they need to get it working. I'd definitely buy any of the MWs if they were on there, though, because while I love 4 Mercs, I feel sad knowing that there's a better Mechwarrior that I'm missing out on

I know that I would buy them in a heartbeat if they showed up 'tho remember that each game was developed by a different company which would make it an extreme challenge to get the assets needed to pull such a thing off. And that's not even including the difficulty of choosing which version of games to use since, like in the case for Mechwarrior 2, they required specialized hardware to work correctly and the Direct3D versions had nothing but issues. Here's a kind of breakdown as to how it would all shake out:
Developed by Westwood Studios (first game before Dune II was released)
The Crescent Hawk's Inception
The Crescent Hawk's Revenge
Developed by Activision
Mechwarrior
Mechwarrior 2
Mechwarrior 2: 3DFX edition
Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries
Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries 3DFX edition
Mechwarrior 2: Titanium Edition
Developed by Zipper Interactive (makers of SOCOM) and published by Infogrames
Mechwarrior 3
Developed by Microsoft Studios
Mechcommander
Mechcommander: Gold
Mechcommander 2
Personally, if I had to pick and choose which ones to get I'd work on the Mechcommander titles first and then the rest since I'm sure it would be much easier to get both the assets from Microsoft and get the games working on modern systems. The other older ones, which I'm very familiar with since I used to work at one of the companies who released them, will have their own individual challenges such as trying to get Mechwarrior 3 working with ATI video cards or getting the Titanium version working on Windows 7.

GOG Dos boxes a bunch of thier games so the source code may not be nessecary. just need to get the dos box settings right. I own all of the mechwarrior titles. but i would buy them again on GOG if they got them all working right.
I'm still having problems with Mechcommander 2 on my win 7 box. sometimes the textures go all wonky

I would love to see these titles available in a format that could be played on a modern machine.

MechCommander Gold and MechCommander 2 both work on my Win7 machine, using Daemon Tools Lite for emulation. The sprites aren't always perfect and MCG crashes occasionally, but it's still a good bit of nostalgia when I'm not playing table-top.

Just a note but the one available via Mektek is the multiplayer version only and not the single-player which I believe was part of the agreement that they struck when they made it available. Unless someone knows differently?

MechCommander Gold and 2 I think are available for free download. I tried Gold and it crashed with "ASSET" errors during the campaign. Dunno about Mektek's version of 4, but it does have a single player campaign.

Nice list Patricia Silverfox (if that is your real name
) but don't forget the MW2 expansion Ghost Bear's Legacy!

I have the Mektek MW4 mercs and it does indeed include campaign.

Thanks and I knew I forgot something!

I'm pretty passionate about this universe and have been for quite some time. Part of me is really sad since there was a very brief moment when the company I worked at may have had a chance in hopping onto this game when it was getting shopped around but it fell thru due to various reasons for which I was somewhat relieved since it looks like everyone here is going to do an awesome job and do both the game and the universe justice
I'm really hopeful that, somehow, the older games do get re-released if not by GOG then by maybe Piranha and company. I mean, while I do have a older gaming box dedicated to playing older Mechwarrior games (here is a list of the basics at http://vogons.zetafl...ighlight=#92791 but I got various cards like a rare Obsidian Quantum Obsidian2 3DFX card that I swap out for special games like MW2) I'd love to be able to play them on a newer laptop that I can take with me.

Ahh! My apologies then since I was not sure if it did or not since I use my original discs.
