I think it would be a great idea.

I think access to the forum would be granted by faction tied to the account. If someone makes an account to spy on the forum you would have to sniff them out by monitoring what missions seem to have problems and if a low rank (loyalty points) member consistantly is part of those missions. Then you boot said member from the House (or report to the moderators). It would add a nice RP element to the community and would make basic spying on tactics more effort than the average player wants to put into it.

Having the private forums for Houses and Mercs here means more traffic ion the website. This is never a bad thing when hit tracking is a great advertisement.

No private forums on here, needs to be open so everyone can have discussions regardless of who you want to play for.

It's not like we've got big secrets we need to keep from other players, and if we had any ideas we didn't want to share...well most of us have voice chat stuff like Vent/etc to talk about that stuff or our own private unit forums/etc. Don't need to splinter the player base more then it already is.

I like the public forums but It would be nice to have a "war room" or something to Plan our battles in.

I agree all the way. they should make a separate thread that only allows people from that faction in therefore killing all snooping or spying by other faction players. very good Idea :P

While I agree that the total annihilation of all who oppose us is inevitable, we should make effort to conceal our means to that end. After all, we wouldn't want our enemies delaying our victory now would we? A private area would go a long way to helping this great house succeed in our war effort. I support this motion!

Better idea:

Forums stay open

In game faction chat (and "Classified Chat"?), map room and general war room features
Access based on LP so you don't just go faction hopping to see plans, etc.

That way everyone can have fun with RP and trash talk on the forums and we still get a viable war room type experience.

Having a private War Room would be great when the game starts, and it's always nice to have a little spirited Dialogue with the other Houses

Once the game starts I would recommend that each faction gets a sub-section for each of their forums that can only be accessed by members of said faction and mercs that are working for them. If the enemy wants to put the effort of making spys, fine, its just another part of warfare.

Public. The RP/trash talk's too much fun to miss out on.

Besides, there are plenty of other places/mediums to communicate sensitive information.

Private forums are a great way to organize and plan cunning strategies to help bring victory in mechwarrior online.

How would you even ENFORCE private subforums for each faction? Do it by faction selection? People could just switch their emblem and check it out anyways. Manually registering each and every member? Why should they put forth that effort? Even then people would just make dummy accounts to get in.

Off-site forums are the way to go if you want to have a private boy's club.

they should have separate sections for different factions, but you should only get to enter them if you declare alligence to a faction. then to discourage dummy accounts you would have to complete a certain number of battles to get a special code that would allow that individual to enter your faction War room, and if you are not active in the forum then you are kicked off and you need to get your code all over again.

Its a free to play game. So unless you make that "Certain number of battles" weeks worth of play, you're still gonna get people (like me) creating secondary accounts, playing those battles (what an excellent time to relax, goof around, or try out stupid/interesting mech builds) and then getting in.

They've already decided not to include in-game voice-chat because organized players already near-universally use their own systems, so I don't see them wanting to bother with private forums when organized groups just make their own forums.

I like the Idea of a private section in each house while leaving the majority of the house threads public. Make it so you can only jump houses once a week..it won't cut off all the "spying" (cause where would the fun be in that)You will still be able to create extra accounts etc...but it will make it difficult and you will have to be dedicated to do it...Any time we can add an element to the game without causing to much extra work for the Dev's i think it's a good thing...
