Daishi in it's purist un-nerfed form would eat a atlas for breakfast, 2 ultra ac 5 autos 4 large lasers, lrm 10 would dice the atlas like Thanksgiving ham.

I would take a Dire Wolf, and here is why:

1) Same speed and protection as the Atlas, but...

2) Greater heat capacity, thanks to its more-compact Clan DHS.

3) 50.5 tons of pod space, thanks to its Clan XL engine, which requires both side torsos to be destroyed to KO the 'mech.

4) Has so much firepower, that it the Inner Sphere stravags would have to build a 200-ton 'mech just to match it (although the fastest a 200 ton 'mech can go is around 32 kph with a 400-rated engine, so the Dire Wolf can out-maneuver it a little bit).

5) It is just plain good-looking. A sleek, brutal symphony on legs, as a certain mechanoid might say.

There is a good reason why the Dire Wolf was christened "Daishi" by the Draconis Combine underground; It's because it is great death. It is capable of carrying enough firepower to match a medium Inner Sphere battlemech lance. Seyla.

With those two to choose from I would take the Atlas. The commanding feel of an Atlas has on the battlefield is hard to match. Ultimately though I would take a Templar over either. Nothing scarier than a Templar and it's alt configs. With the stuff a Templar can carry and it can jump, wouldn't want to fight it.

The only thing you need to know about this debate is that when given the choice of taking a Daishi or any mech in the Inner Sphere both Hohiro Kurita and Victor Steiner-Davion took the Daishi.

The only person who has ever turned down one was Kai Allard-Liao, in favor of his daddy's YLW. However that guy took out a cluster of Jade Flacon front line mechs with a Hatchetman, so it's not like he needed a Daishi.

That's totally true. Those two characters had the power to choose any ride they wanted, and they accepted their Dire Wolf omnimechs. That says something right there.

I keep seeing people saying the Daishi/Dire Wolf looks good, and I've never been able to see it. I mean, it's basically an airplane nosecone shoved into a box with arms and legs glued onto the sides and bottom. Several of the original clanmechs had this look. The Mad Cat/Timberwolf is another big offender in the "airplane nosecone shoved through a box" category. Never liked that either. And the Masakari? Take a dumptruck. Cut off and discard the back half. Glue arms and legs to the remains.

Of the original clanmechs the only one I _really_ liked the look of was the original Vulture/Mad Dog design. Now _that_ was cool looking.

I'll go hide from all the clansmen calling for trials of grievance against me now. :(

I don't blame you. The Mad Dog is an awesome-looking design. Out of my 10 Lego omnimech designs, I made the Mad Dog into a model IRL first -_-

I must admit I feel the same way. For me the most iconic Mechs in the past used to be IS Mechs - Uziel, Catapult, Osiris, Awesome and Mauler. Some Clan mechs are appealing (Ryoken, Cougar, Vulture, Nova Cat and Shadow Cat), but regarding the Daishi I never understood what people liked on it. When I had the chance I always went for Kodiak instead simply because I didn't want to watch the ugly box with legs. That doesn't mean that the mech isn't worth respect, the visuals just don't do it for me.

Still, due to its sheer capabilities, it somehow turned iconic. Mechs don't have to be nice to be iconic (Raven, anyone?).

They may not be able out dance a Victor however be able out fire your victor and with the right engine tweaks Atlas and Dashi would be able keep target lock

To be honest Both the Atlas and Dire Wolf are both 100 ton battle mechs there is no clear advantage you can more less put same weapons on both Chassis

The Daishi is an Omni-mech so it has the clear advantage in that you can easily strip in and out weapons as you want. It also has a Clan XL engine which is way better than the IS XL engine the line standard 3050 Atlas has.
