Daishi, anyday, anywhere, anyhow, clan-tech or no.
It's just everything you can want, including those reverse-knee legs, so much better than the humanoid looking mechs, they are just... bljaaaa, horrible looking, I don't think there is a single Humanoid mech I like more than ANY of the chicken legged mechs.

Timber Wolf II, Sunder

No such thing as Timber Wolf II. Mad Cat Mk II has been manufactured by a different Clan from Timber Wolf, under that very IS-inspired name.

Also - Sunder, mr. Potato "iconic"? I think... that's a bit too much to say.

A lot of people who were introduced to battletech through Mech Warrior games knew the sunder long before they knew the Atlas. As MW3 was pretty popular, and later installment seemed to lack the fallowing of 3. I always thought the Sunder had that sort of Clan-Esque look like the Hellbringer's and Summoner's disowned big brother.

Not officially named as such, does not mean no such thing, it means there's a misnomer related to it. Either way it's still the timber wolf's successor, it looks like one, and it acts like one so therefore it is one. Just because Clan Diamond Shark built it as a money making idea, doesn't mean it's not essentially more of the same. As a spiritual successor who cares if the name is "wrong," Mad Cat MK II is just as wrong because "Mad Cat" is a misnomer for Timber Wolf, caused by a targeting computer being unable to correctly identify the 'mech.

Daishi is technically far superior in every way except speed but if you're asking me based on equal grounds, I'd take the Atlas. It looks cooler and I like the round skull.

It's the OmniMech for me. Clan tech is better. I also like chicken walkers better. The Atlas sure does have a big ol sac on 'im thought don't he?

Well, you're spot on for lore (it was based of of captured clan Summoner's and Hellbringers)

About the Atlas vs Dire wolf...performance says Dire Wolf all the time, barring lucky shots. But you know, when I got the 4th edition box set that cover atlas was truly inspiring. Pre clan, the atlas is king. But I love the less humanoid mech's.

The DIre wolf Widowmaker config is probably the second best assault I've seen after a custom Kodiak design of mine.
2erPPC's
2LPLAS
1uAC20 w10 rounds
2erMLAS
1erSLAS
25 (50) double heat sinks!!!
99% maximum allowable armor

This mech is a beast! Long range it can fire the ppc's and large pulse lasers with negligible heat build up and do a whopping 50 damage! The atlas firing the LRM and Gauss and the 2 er large's will do a maximum of 51, average of 43 points of damage while using ammo and overheating by a minimum of 11 points.

Um... Timber Wolf(MadCat), Timber Wolf II, Sunder, and Dire Wolf are far more iconic 'mechs. Especially to people who were introduced with Mechwarrior games and not the table top game.

Actually, the Clan name for the "timberwolf II" is the Mad Cat Mark II. It was meant to be sold by clan Diamond Shark to other Clans and to a lesser extent the IS.

between those two, I'd take the Dire Wolf, just love the look of it. Now for my fav IS assault mech it would have to be the Highlander and for the clans it would be the Warhawk.

While the Atlas is certainly more feared, I prefer the Daishi. Better weapons ports (At least in MW4).

The difference is that everyone in the IS calls the Mad Cat "Mad Cat", so it's the official IS name no matter the origin, while nobody from Clans calls Mk II "Timber Wolf".

Clans' reaction to it pretty much shows that they don't see it as being worthy of the name either.

Daishi, it can be the biggest nightmare in a fight, more so than the Atlas in my opinion.

I dont panic when i meet an Atlas, but I'll s*** the pants if i see a Daishi.

I know it doesn't have the looks, but for the mobility and the extra torso twist, I do favor the Sunder.

I'm a big Atlas fan but an even bigger Dire Wolf fan. Mostly because they could mount triple AC/20s in MW4. But hey, what do I know?
