Hey Fella's,

A few months back I created an account here to claim my name and I have been coming in and out to check on the progress of the game. I'm going to do my best to be a regular here on the forums and any other medium that makes any mention on MWO.

I am extremely excited to try MWO out but I have a tough decision to make. I'm looking forward to the game and am considering buying the Elite package tomorrow and hopefully in a month or so (when I can afford it) upgrading to the Legendary pack (I'm hoping it's still offered then). I understand all of the benefits that come with each package but I'm at a loss when it comes to which mech to choose out of the four choices (Jenner, Catapult, Hunchback, Atlas). I would like some help deciding which mech to choose. Back in my days of playing MW2: Mercenaries my all-time favorites were the Warhawk, Nova, and Catapult. I recognize all four mechs but from my experience in MW2 I hated the Jenner. I really enjoyed the Catapult and the Atlas was fun but extremely slow. I would like some updated recommendations as to which mech to choose.

As far asplay-style, I'm the run-and-gun type who favors a ton of firepower above anything else. For comparison, in almost any other game I choose the support class which usually has a fully automatic machine gun with tons of ammo. If I can't get that I like grenades or shotguns, as long as a gun/class has some medium range and high damage I'm content. I guess you could say I prefer volume over acuracy and health over speed. Any and all recommendations are greatly appreciated. The only mechs I'm leaning towards are the Catapult and Atlas. Are there any benefits to choosing some mechs over others (i.e. they usually take a long time to unlock otherwise, unlock skills, etc)?

I thank you all in advance for your advice and I look forward to fighting with and against you guys in the near future!

-Stormy

Sounds like the Atlas is a good choice for you, and it looks rather good with the founder's paintjob too.

Catapult would be a fine choice too  Me, I would take that Catapult home...

Please use the search function in the forums as there do exist several other threads on that topic.
And due to the NDA no founder can talk about their experiences with their mechs. So it comes down to which role you do like best.

Can't really give details because of NDA but I think you would be happy with either of your choices (Cat/Atlas). All four available mechs are fairly solid choices and iconic.

Thanks guys, I few minutes ago I snapped and went with the catapult. I hope it's like the mech I used to know. Now all I can do is hope the founder packs stick around for a while so I can upgrade!

Catapult got lots of room for the XL version of your engine. Give much needed tonnage. Just remember the XL engine ned some room in left and right torso too. I got an Atlas myself and my engine upgrade helped me some tonnage wize but not as much as in the Catapult.

taking into consideration the XP and C-Bill bonus... I'd go with the Mech that has the highest potential for sustaining and dealing damage.

... I'll let you piece that one together.

Do a search under the beta forums, I thought I saw a post on how you can change your founder's mech selection if you opted for the Elite Founder's package, if you don't like the Cat. Good hunting!

I always vote Catapult for people just getting one. It is the only one with a different model. It is also easily configured for long range fire support or close range brawling.

St0rmy, it took me a VERY long time to decide. I bounced back and fourth between the Atlas and Jenner, but I finally went with the Jenner because it suits being a loner better.

Congrats on the Catapult!

Hi,
So, there are 4 mechs. And you need to chose only 1 of them.

We've got:

Jenner JR-K
4 lasers
2 missile

If you enjoy light mech gameplay - it is a great mech to take. I tryed it, played over 25+ battles using this mech in different configs.
Among them:
1) x4 med lasers (no missiles)
2) x2 srm6 + small lasers
etc

HBK-4G
3 ballistics
3 energy
Right now, ballistics is the weakest weapon type in the game IMHO (gauss is great).
This huchback is weak. May be it is not bad at all, but comparing with all other hunchbacks - it is weak.
I love huchbacks, -4P is probably one of the best mechs for me in game. Right now I would not recommend you to get founder hunchback.

Catapult-C1
2 missiles
4 lasers
An ok all around catapult, that can be fitted for long or short range battles. I am not playing catapults a lot, but I did put some time in studying this one.

Atlas AS7-D
A great mech to take.
As all other atlases it has all types of weapons on board. It doesnt mean that u've got to fit all of them. I really enjoy this mech and have different builds for it. But, to use different weapon types requires some skill and time to get used to.

So, if your skill is good, I would reccomend a founder mech in such order:

1. Atlas
2.&3. Cat-c1 or Janner (depends on game style)
4. Hunchback

Hope I was clear because english is not my native language. GL and HF

Atlas, saves you the most money and is a good variant. Easy Mech to learn on too.
