I'm on the fence and waiting for more information. I have to say, having been burned on multiple other pre-orders, like so many gamers that I take the strict enforcement of the NDA here to be a bad omen that there are things they don't want people to see/know about.

I doubt that.

And the Founders package is not a pre-order or something.

Calling a duck a pigeon doesn't mean it can't swim. This is DEFINITELY a pre-order.

The Founder's pack comes with some nice freebies, but the game itself is free to play. If you don't want to drop $$$ on an as-yet-undisclosed game, just wait for the free to play open beta.

I wish I could tell you how much fun MWO is, and how much great progress they're making in the closed beta! But you'll have to just for yourself based on the official videos released until we can say more.

I have to say that PAYING to be part of a BETA is so stupid it gives me a nose bleed thinking about it (I mean, seriously, they should be paying you for your time, but I digress).

What I'm most worried about is the cash shop. I play WoT and have played other f2p games, some even before LOTRO made it standard (and destroyed their game in the process). I'm not especially high-tier (6 is my highest with 4 master ranked artillery) but its already clear that the higher you go the more it costs.

I'm not a cheap ******* either, I have no problem spending money on a game I like but I'm not interested in gold-ammo sink hole for example and there isn't much on the store out there at all. All I've really seen is a handful of videos and very very little information about anything else with frighteningly active don't-break-the-NDA police.

The NDA will almost surely be lifted at open beta, if not before. Why would you prevent people from showing pictures when anyone with an email address can play the game and see it for themselves?

Well. I've been registered since I heard about this game a couple weeks ago and I don't have a key. I haven't seen anyone who hasn't paid say they've gotten access either. I've also read threads from people wanting refunds being told "tough luck" by the player base...

No.

Also it won't be lifted after the release. This game will stay our secret forever!

Player base has nothing to do with people wanting refunds. Period. Thats PGI's worry not ours.

Second, yes MWO has had a big influx the last 10 days with all the founders added.
They probably don't see any real need to add more beta testers at this point. BUT, that will change at some point.

For right now I for one am very very glad I bought elite, and upgraded to legendary.
Yes it is in my opinion worth it. I may never spend another dime on this game (learned my lession feeding cash into WOT hoping for changes) But I can already tell you that MWO is no WOT with russian dev's. They listen!

Things get tried, tested, adjusted, not just nerfed.

Paying for Beta.

Nobody is paying to get into beta, at least not in the way you seem to think, although I can understand how you may think so.
Other games has done the same, Guild Wars 2 is the most recent one I can remeber.
The founders have been let into beta as a bonus for providing cash up front for an unseen and unfinished product.
Just in the last week they have actually let in 2500 more players into beta who has not bought founders pack, and they let in thousands before the founders pack were put up for sale.
Many of those have since bought the founders pack, but not all so there are still players in beta who does not have the founders pack

The Cash Shop.

I can understand your concerns regarding the Cash shop.
I have seen myself how games can get ruined when the developers/publishers want more and more money from a game.
The devs here are very adamant about just that part, and they have said that the cash shop will not give you a tactical advantage, i.e. no premium mechs, ammo or such things.
I know this has been said in other games as well and they have done it anyway, but I for one are willing to give the devs here the benefit of the doubt.

The NDA police.

Allot of the people currently in the beta, I suspect most of them even, are very hardcore fans of the MW/BT franchise and they want to see this game succeed as much as the devs want.
The NDA is there for a reason, the game is nowhere near finished yet and the devs dont wan there to be bad press about the game from disgruntled beta players who dont understand that the game is not finished yet.
There are plenty of those around who does not understand that the game is still in development.

I think the main reason the NDA police are so active here is that there are a significant amount of people posting in the wrong forums, most of them unintentionally, because of this it may seem like the NDA is very strict, but its not any different from any other NDA out there.

There are still allot that needs to be done, and letting people seeing and comment an unfinished product would be more likely to scare away customers than attracting them.

If you have not done so already I suggest you sign up for the beta at least, and keep an eye out for free beta keys on the net.
IGN recently offered beta keys to their members, so dont be surprised if other offers show up along the way.

I hope I have been able to help alleviate at least some of your concerns.
I really wish I could tell you about the game, but if I were to do so it would be a breach of the NDA, it quickly be deleted and I risk getting locked out of beta and I dont want that.

The problem with most of these people wanting refunds is that they have far too high expectations of a game that is still in development.
They expect an almost finished product that only need a few tweaks, they think that what they see is what they get.
They dont understand that the game is not finished yet and there are allot of things that needs to be added, fixed and adjusted.
So they get deeply disappointed and start thinking that they have paid for something thats not worth the money, which is why they get responses like "though luck".

Thanks for your responses. I have to say, though, that PGI seems to foster the impression that the game is done. I thought it was going to be out on the 7th based on what they had written and I wasn't alone judging from the dev post that quickly followed. They still haven't given solid dates though (that I'm aware of anyway).

I cant speak for PGI, and I dont know how far they are in development.
All I can say is what I know about the current state of things that are not covered by the NDA.

There was allot of misconceptions and misunderstanding in regards to the 7th.
PGI used the term "Early Access" about founders getting into closed beta on the 7th, which contributed to the confusion.
There was actually a post by Bryan long before the 7th which was quoted numerous times that explained what was going to happen on the 7th.

I bought the Legendary pack right off the bat when I saw it available.
I did so because I love the MW games, really want this game to succeed.
And I personally feel it was worth it, and cant wait to see this game released.

My wife who has never played an MMO in her life nor beta tested anything just doesn't understand my "desire" to get in and not be able to talk about it with anyone not in the game. After several tries to explain to her why it's important to have a NDA during beta testing and why some of the players are spending money on a game that isn't out yet, I simply threw my hands in the air and told her this. "Think of the MWO as a trip to Las Vegas, you go there with the hopes of something big, you spend money you may not have, sometimes you hit the jackpot, sometimes you feel like you got the shaft, either way what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. She looked at me for a few seconds and replied, "OK, I get it now." So there ya go....hope that helps ...lolol

Open Beta will be soon ™. It has been suggested that this may be when the nda is lifted. Sign up now, so you can be in the pool when they start letting people into open beta. It still isnt the flood gates opening, and people will still be let in on a lottery.

I'm from Naptown. Saw your profile. Do you remember when they had the Battletech game at Circle Center? =)

Never have they written that the game is done. It's been repeated uncountable times that it's still BETA. I can't imagine where you would get this idea.
