As for the jumpjets, unless one of the clans, or even an IS House, has a breakthrough in cold thruster developement, it would actually provide a larger heat signature for the lock-on... meaning, it has a BETTER lock on you.
So, unless you're jumping behind some overhead barrier, jumpjets aren't going to help more than any other evasive maneuver (mechs don't particularly "jump" all that fast).

...Is there any distinction between radar, thermal and optical tracking systems for missiles in BattleTech?
I think this would determine whether or not jump jets would mess with your missile lock.

Since it's been said that "...LRMs will be semi-guided....You will be able to lock on to your target but it doesn't mean the actual missiles will home directly to the target....The chance of missing will still be part of LRM gameplay.."
I assume that jumping your mech after the missiles are launched would be a viable way to avoid some of the damage.

Or AMS, in terms of limiting damage. I find the boating annoying, mostly because it always seems to win the day over mixed variants and limits imagination to just boating. I am confident the devs will find a way to balance the jumpjet mechanics with forms of long ranged fire support, missle included.

Or perhaps by shooting the missiles down with lasers ppcs, guass slugs, autocannons and lastly machine guns.

That would be nice, if they make it possible to at least target the incoming volley, like in Armored Core. That would also give small arms more purpose in the game

Then what is the point of AMS ? It is a machine gun built for missile defence after all.
If you are afraid just mount ECM on every fit.
Streaks will go haywire, artemis will fail, NARC is clouded out etc

AMS is lighter than even the machine gun, and shooting manually may not provide a guaranteed hit. ECM will not always work on a missleboat, as most have BAP.

BAP does not work when in range of ECM. Period. Also BAP does not help in missile guiding and lock on. That is just a silly mechanic done by M$ MW4.

I think in one of the novels mechs fired on incoming Arrow IV missiles with limited success. As for shooting regular LRMS, I assume they are much smaller and moving too fast to hit with normal mech weapons.
There's a thread about the weapon convergence times revealed in the talent trees. If we need to wait for our weapons to converge on a mech I doubt we'll be shooting down missiles.

hmm, you are entirely correct on that. Nevertheless, MW4 provided endless fun for almost ten years. "M$" did something right to account for that game's much deserved attention.
I also noticed sarna's page on ECM did nothing to mention blocking BAP, just "seek targets like BAP".

Check the rules again.
All electronics.
That includes C3 systems, BAP, NARC, C3i, iNarc, Targeting Computers, Streak, Artemis even other ECM. It gets even better if ECM can generate Ghost Targets so a full company of mechs can appear to have like 40+ on the radar of hostiles
