Basically I'm torn between Davion and Marik... IF I pledge to a House. I've always loved the Wolf's Dragoons and would probably be interested in joining up with them as well. In any case, does anyone have an idea of the current membership sizes of the various Houses and factions? I primarily want to join a faction that suits my playstyle and personality, but I find it boring to sign up for the biggest faction and don't want to play the absolute smallest, either. Grant me some ideas, fellow MechWarriors!

Play lone wolf untill more fractions are added, the Inner Sphere deserves no loyalty. The Taurian Concordat needs your help against the Davion dogs! Or join the Magistracy of Canopus and get ***** whipped by the hottest girls in the universe! :D

Well you are in luck. As the Wolf's Dragoons are a canon unit, you as a player, will be unable to join them. So thats one part of your hard choice out of the way.

You don't have to join a faction you can go lone wolf or be a Merc.

You should join House Marik, as it's numbers are rather low.

Again, does anyone have the actual numbers (or something close) for the various factions?

Here's the factors driving me so far:
Davion
--Kinda the "good guys"
--Old world honor
--Decent-sized faction
--Mixed-unit tactics (unlike their Steiner allies)
--Don't get utterly destroyed during the Jihad

Marik
--Better system of government
--More personal freedom
--Awesome mechs (whether we actually SEE any of them is up for debate, however)
--Purple's cooler than red
--Smaller "underdog" faction
--They have flippin' KNIGHTS

Wait, feudal system of government is better? This is new. I always thought that the portion of western history where the dominant form of government was a feudal system was referred to as the dark ages. That all of this ended when Europe woke up, shook off the feudal reins and the Renaissance began.

Hmm.

No question about it, pick Davion.

While I don't "hate" House Davion, I find that "good guys" moniker hardly deserved.

While I doubt MWO will ever get to the post-Jihad era, I find the "underdoggy" sundered League with all of it's splintered domains quite interesting. House Marik temporarily ceases to exist as a House, but the Free Worlds League kinda remains, although more as in "Free Worlds" rather than as a true League.

Just for the focus on the arts, individualism, and appearing to be the less bigoted of the Houses (although admittedly all RP reasons), I find Marik the best choice among the Houses-no offense, but House Davion seems quite hypocritical from me, from a neutral point of view (Davion does have other great things going for it, of course.) And as for honor, as represented by House Marik under this particular era, it seems to me the most "authentic" being offered of all the Houses. If I was going to be a Mechwarrior or even just a citizen, I wouldn't mind being one for House Marik, especially during 3049.

I wish we could get to play at least a lowly MAD-3M for the pre-clan years, though. :D

There was some overlap between the "Dark Ages" and the feudalism. But one could argue that feudalism brought Europe out of the Dark Ages.

Europe, also, was not the only place where feudalism was present. It also existed in Japan for an extremely long time. It was also present in China. The Dark Ages were not a result of feudalism, but more a result of the Roman Empire's collapse.

I'd recommend Davion or Kurita. I used to really dislike Kurita but these two houses have found an alliance since Victor & Omi 'got together'. Of course there are people on both sides who can't or won't forget that the 'other side' has done really bad things to their homes & loved ones. I would NEVER pick Liao or Steiner. So, since I can't decide, I'm going Merc & hopefully the developers will add the Gray Death Legion as a Merc unit.
