I thought PPC = Plasma Particle Cannon. So this dude's explanation seems on point for that acronym.

Particle Projection Cannon, according to the mythos. It could well be an electrolaser, however, that would very well sum up how the weapon is described in the fiction

Also, there has been built a railgun that I know of, but not a proper 'particle cannon' in weaponized form. That would've been Tesla's "particle beam" weapon that has been theorized but lost, no?
http://en.wikipedia....ki/Electrolaser This, is not
http://en.wikipedia....cle_beam_weapon ...this.

This is true but 'This, is not' is close enough in looks and effect to a pcc that no-one cares... also in response 2 the previous 2 posts http://cdn.memegener...0x/24111566.jpg

we are trying to find something realistic, to which I think nightwing put it best, we've done it in real life on a micro scale, why not on a macro scale/

Not on a macro scale because the power generation and storage capacity for something like this simply doesn't exist in an efficient-enough form yet. Also the destructive power is honestly lacking compared with say, a cannon of equal weight/complexity/expense, so why expand into the fields of fringe weaponry science until armor can thoroughly defeat them? It's irresponsible of weapon science.

As far as armor, there are schematics for the MadCat and another that have the armor detailed in layers. Alternatively to all of this, you could go get the Techmanual from your local comicbook+ shop and have all the secrets laid bare.

Note: just because you started a page doesn't mean ****. Also, when it comes to the Armor, what about the high amount of kinetic damage done by auto cannons, or by flamers

Did you listen to when real scientists were talking kaburo? I'd quote him for you but you'll just have to go back to the flamethrower thread and read.

when are the REAL scientists gonna show up (you are ok nightwish you can stay)

dude, seriously, your first post it trolling on someone elses?

and you know what kobura, this IS my thread. so I am gonna ask you again to leave

Your thread, my page. Shall we declare a partnership, or is it Medium Lasers at 300 paces? (Hope we're using the extreme range rules)

I'm also not sure what my first post it trolling means, but I don't assume it references back to Ask The Devs 7, which was my first post... nor is my name Kaburo, and if you're going to misspell it at least call me Kabuto, because that 'mon was awesomes.

Pretty sure that very few real scientists play MW because of its' strongggg pseudoscience, but if you mean people that're willing to accommodate you not listening the first dozen times it was said that a magnetic bottle expulsion of fusion-reaction-heated matter was how a non-ammo based flamer functioned, then I think most of them got the hint and failed to show up for this round.

And I'm not sure what the flamer thread has to do with the PPC/Armor "discussion", but I'm sure you'll enlighten me.

I dont want to live on this planet anymore, ITS FICTION, AND FUTURE!!!!!!!! Oh and a TESLA CANNON IS NOT A PPC!!!!!!!

question explain everything about how a jump ship works. then build it. CAN'T? then shut up

PPC = Particle Projectile Cannon. Though in lore it has been described as man made lightning, so the examples I have provided do indeed fit the description of a PPC, including the 'Tesla Cannon' to a degree, though the Tesla Canon is more of an energy weapon over a projectile weapon, if you understand what I mean.

While we are on the subject, my friend brings up an interesting point: A PPC, in theory, could not operate in spppaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaacccccccccccccccccccccceeeeeeeeeeeeee as there are no molecules to excite.

Kobura, I was talking to andrew kase when i was talking about trolling, mostly because it was his first post on the forums and it was annoying.
Also, no partnership, but no lasers either, i am leaving for the day (getting kinda tired and I need dinner)

Can vaporize exactly 1.5 tons of armor composed of ceramic, boron nitride, steel ultra-alloys, titanium, and diamond weaving per shot. Stated in canon, do the math, that comes out to 2 gigajoules. So 1 damage in BTech = 200 megajoules. Modern tanks have about 30MJ of power per shot. BTech weapons are powerful as hell.

I have no idea what this thread is about, so I just put something about PPC's and physics.

I like wikipedia's article on Particle Beam Weapons: http://en.wikipedia....cle_beam_weapon
It even describes the basics of how one would go about generating such a beam.

Andrew Kase was that friend who headdesked so hard it earthquaked on Mars, who infact finally got around to making his profile just to go "omgwtf". I'm sure he'll use it for something else eventually.

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet but the Large Hadron Collider, as in, the hunt for the Higgs' Boson, is a really, really big PPC without a hole at the end.

It matters more of how the BattleTech writers defined a PPC and a Laser, weapon than what a generic Wikipedia entry says. As defined in the universe technology a PPC projects a small amount of mass from particles allowing it to project kinetic and thermal, energy where a laser is strictly thermal.
